Surviving Creative Burnout: Koosje Koene on Art for All podcast 63
Ойын-сауық
Danny talks to Koosje Koene who cofounded Sketchbook Skool back in 2013. Koosje left Skool after 7 years and has taken a new direction in her life. She’s become an abstract painter, she teaches travel workshops, and she’s just written a book about drawing and how it can improve your life.
Danny and Koosje are still great friends and in fact, she still teaches a regular class in our Spark program. But they've never talked publicly about why she decided to leave the Skool, how they both felt about it, and what she has been doing since.
They decided it was time to sit down and chat about it.

Thank you for doing this conversation. I’m sure I’m not the only one that was curious about what happened to Koosje. I enjoy you both.
I appreciate so much Koosje and you, your work, your way to look at life... very interesting talk. Such a good moment with both of you.

Thank you too!
Love this conversation! You both have been instrumental in me taking the plunge to start sketching (after always wanting to learn how one day!) at the age of 51! I'm sketching everyday and each time I learn something new and exciting! I'm so thankful to you both xxx
Wonderful conversation --so timely! Thanks to both Koosje and Danny for acknowledging the effects of burnout and pointing out why it's important to deal with it!
Koosje, I just got my copy of your book and I love, love, love it! Not only is it eye candy, but it is full of great ideas and inspiration!

I just ordered one! Yay
Thank you!! You both look for your angles, borders and what inspired you in drawing, while inspiring others to do just that and just go for drawing everyday anyway. And this conversation also shows that expectations of each other and sometimes feel at loss about another person's choices, yet charing your feelings about this and find eachother as you go on where you find each your inspiration. And yoy still stay connected! Thank you. Love you both!!
This was the best way to start my day. The two of you are the reason I am making changes in my life to create for me. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and love for art and drawing. ❤️
I just ordered Koosje’s book. I can’t wait for it to arrive! You are both inspirations!
When it comes to illustration, I always look up to both of you ❤️❤️
Great conversation. I didn't know kosje was co founder of the company.
Enjoyed the conversation and the perspectives both of you brought to the discussion…a good boost of mindful thoughts to begin my week. Thank you.
One of the things I was thinking was that “in person” teaching may be a different thing than online teaching. It may fill your cup differently, and you may not get so tired of it. And it’s easier to back off when you have your owncrowd
This was so lovely to watch. Thank you both for sharing. 💗

Glad you enjoyed it!
Until recently, I hadn't seen any KZread videos since MAR 2020. I was wondering why I wasn't seeing Koosje in any of the vids I was getting caught up on from that time period. I guess I can stay caught up with her on her own channel and watch her Draw Tip Tuesday vids.

Danny, how did you and Koosje originally meet and start the idea of Sketchbook Skool? Do you have a video about that?

No video, but there's a podcast episode: www.buzzsprout.com/1697074/7884007
I misunderstood…I guess the title, “Surviving Creative Burnout” wasn’t the main topic of your show today. She sounds like an amazing person and accomplishing so much. Listening to her made me feel very down. I’m exhausted and have been in burnout recovery for many years. I haven’t picked up a pencil (let alone a paintbrush) without feeling nauseous. I thought by the title, I could find some good tips-or at least some solace with someone who understands and has gone through the dark night of the soul and come out on the other side. Perhaps I should’ve finished watching but only got through half way and had to turn it off. I want to celebrate all your many successes with you, but I can’t at the moment. Burnout sucks. As a creative person, I feel a part of me is dead. I hope I can come out of this.❤️😃 wish me luck.
