I’ve been driving Porsches for 40+ years as my daily drivers and your video shows exactly how they should be used.........drive them a lot and drive them anywhere! I loved the family aspect of your video and love the other content, as well..........I just subscribed and have already watched five of them. One of the very best Porsche themed YT channels I’ve subscribed to recently. Keep up the great work and stay well and safe. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Wow, thank you so much @18echosf! That comment totally made my day. I absolutely believe that cars are best enjoyed when driven and are meant to be driven. I'm always inspired to see Porsches with high miles because that means they've given their owner(s) a lot of smiles. The adventures that you have while driving vastly eclipse the boredom of a car sitting in a garage.

Very similar story. I had to wait 40 years for my own 911. Aged 16, I cleaned my neighbour’s. 911, and promised his beautiful daughter that, one day, I would own my own 911. Took 40 years, but eventually I ordered a brand new 991.2 PDK C2. The beautiful daughter, messaged to congratulate. Even though in the 40 years I had emigrated, and become a paraplegic. I collected my Porsche from the dealership, and then the very next day, I drove 1000miles from Cape Town to Jo’burg. There, I collected my late friend’s son, who, himself had just become a wheelchair user after a knife attack. So a week later we had 2 paraplegics, 2 wheelchairs, and all our luggage, 1000 miles back to Cape Town. I would do that trip every month until Covid, so mty car now has 180 000km. But still every km is fun. An example is the return trip home. I will have been in the car for 13 hours. The very last 50km offers a choice, either through a long, boring tunnel, and save 10km and 5 min, or over a twisty mountain pass. I ALWAYS take the pass, even in bad weather. Oh, by the way, I did choose Blue - metallic sapphire blue for mine. With chalk & crayon interior.

If I were retired I would probably try to do the same.

@@AtypicalDriver Oh, I'm just doing European Delivery with Porsche. So I buy and pay for the car in US. Getting some discount and free hotel (1 or 2 days), 15 days full insurance in Europe, full tank of gas, no need for service and keys to the car. 15 days later I can drop it off in a few different spots in Germany or return it to the factory (I got the car at the factory in Leipzig including 1h track time with a pro driver, 78-corse lunch (at least it felt like that), factory tour and presentation of my car in a living room :). Porsche handled the temporary German registration (included - but I had to pay for it till the car was shipped to US (and then I got all of that back, and used part to pay for the local taxes). I can HIGHLY recommend it ... Unfortunately BMW stopped doing ED this year (I got my M5CP in Munich summer '19, and pretty much the same deal + 5% off list price ... so it was actually cheaper than getting it in the US, but I had to wait a bit till the dealers had enough cars where they wanted to do this (why I did not get it in '18). Volvo and Mercedes also offer this program (might be that MB is also planning to stop it). Unfortunately Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren does not, so that has to be a US buy... or you have to deal with all the stuff yourself (but I'm working to figure out how to do it, as I think it's not too hard. Found a insurance company I can work with, and I can ship the car back to US in a rented container for ~$5,000. These trips are amongst my most fun memories (next I plan to drive through Canada and north in Alaska ... and back again :). All over in Europe parking is tight, so it can be stressful, roads are not as wide as US (even Autobahn), but the tarmac is way better (except border between old East Germany and Poland ... that was a BUMPY ride :). But all over not a big deal, other than people drive much better in general, and road rage is super rare. First time I flew my brother to Germany and we drove together up to Norway, second time I flew my brother and father down and drove them back home (to Norway). (I'm not retired, so I just took 3 weeks off work, but you can extend the insurance to be 30/60/90 days (there is a max limit though), and I do plan at some point to do an extended stay (perhaps when I retire :) Next time I plan to drive south through Italy and up the French Riviera and up to Portugal. Fun to stretch the legs on Autobahn even it only did it for a few seconds (so I don't have that itch any longer).

@@goguhu That sounds awesome! We actually *ALMOST* did the european delivery when my wife bought her Audi (the only new car we've ever bought) but we chickened out. The plan was to take our two kids and do a tour around Europe but we just figured it was going to be too hard with little ones. Definitely on my bucket list to do this sometime though! And in the meantime, whenever I've bought used cars here in the US I actually have not worried about where they are located. I call it a "US delivery" or "domestic delivery". Same idea, fly in and drive it back as I did with the 991 in this video and I also did it with my Audi S4 which I picked up in Las Vegas (actually in that case I was in NYC on business and rather than booking my return flight back to SF, I just booked it to Las Vegas, picked up the car, and drove the rest of the way home). Prior to buying the white 991 in the video, I was almost ready to close a deal on a dark blue 991 in Pennsylvania and I would have driven that back to California as well, but then I found the white car and it had some nicer options for basically the same price so I am happy that worked out.

@@AtypicalDriver Yeah I have done one "US Delivery". Drove from Mass to Florida and back (was a friend that bought a car and I joined him to go picking it up). This was winter time, so it was so surreal to drive through the 4 seasons back and forth. Yeah I can understand with smaller kids that this might be hard, but keep in mind that Denmark is heaven for kids. So many activities, beaches etc., but that's less of driving and more of staying put. Driving through Switzerland and north of Italy is so beautiful, and same goes for Norway (mid-late summer time due to weather conditions). I think for used cars your strategy is awesome, combination with vacation and getting to know the car. I'v always been weary about not servicing a new car at the dealership I got it at (even if I'm quite sure it does not matter ... I still feel I would get a bit better treatment if it's the same spot my dealer was at (if the dealer was a good guy - so far that has worked for me). I do have a few routes I do take from CA that last 5-15 days I've done a few times with friends and family, but I'm getting to know too many roads now on the west coast. Still lover to drive up US1, Yosemite, Death Valley, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Antelope Canyon, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, LA, SF area (done that loop 10 times over the last 25 years). Still on my bucket list is full Route 66 (only drove part of it on both ends), Alaska (only been driving in Alaska before, which I can highly recommend ... for driving and scenery, but not entertainment (horrible for kids I bet). and perhaps one more coast-2-coast (drove across in South and North, but not mid). And then wrap up my around Australia trip (only done the east/cost and through center (Ayers Rock), so missing the west and north/west. But do not plan to buy a car in Australia though :)

  • @AtypicalDriver

Mine is a C2S (RWD). The backseat will be the same in either, so I think really the question would be do you live somewhere with snow / ice and do you plan to use the 911 in those winter conditions? The C2S with snow tires can be used in the snow, but the C4S is probably a lot better in those conditions. You honestly won't go wrong with either one!

At least for a 991.1 I would say 160cm 'just' fits and an hour is a long time for the back seat passenger on poor roads or with spirited driving as the seat is hard. But I have also fitted a 180cm person in when they have really wanted to experience it !!!

Good question! Actually I don't think they were uncomfortable as they did a 4 hour stint with no stops from Seattle to Portland. But I think after our night in the hotel, the idea of doing 2 more long stints like that (we were going to break up the remaining drive) was something they weren't really looking forward to...including my wife. Your kids will definitely fit just fine, you might need a special car seat for the 2 year old...one the 2 year is in a booster seat it's really easy though.
