Surreal Collage Inspired By Feather Images | Cut and paste #40

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hi there! I'm Rosie and this week I was inspired by some feather images I found in a Nat Geo magazine and wanted to use them in a collage! I'm not going to lie, this was a challenge, but I think I made something beautiful in the end.

Creating a handmade custom DIY surreal art collage is easy! I share my tips and techniques on how I create my analog collages as I cut out pictures and illustrations out by hand with a small pair of scissors and a craft knife. Finding inspiration from old books is one of the most fun steps to this process. These can come from used books, encyclopedias, magazines, vintage postcards, or anything else you can find lying around your house. I find most of my books and magazines from thrift stores, antique stores, flea markets, Craigslist, or even on the side of the road! Watch as I arrange my elements and try different ideas as I talk through my process to create my final design.
Collages made out of paper have a custom made feel that you can't get from a digital collage made in Photoshop. And, there is an added challenge of only being able to use materials that you have access to!
Want to try creating your own? Just grab a magazine, scissors, and a glue stick!

I really like this one!! Cutting the feathers was so subtle I would barely notice at first glance, it’s just enough to invoke mountains.

Hi, MM again. I wanted to tell you about another great source of images, one that I use frequently. Calendars are awesome! You can find them at dollar and discount stores. There are so many to choose from, so many different themes. When I find ones I really like, I buy several copies. One year, the Dollar Tree I go to most often had such a surplus that they ended up selling them 4/$1 in June. I stocked up on flowers, butterflies, beaches, animals, mountains, seashells, etc. Just another of my many thoughts… Thank you for being so awesome!

Your content feels so real, every video is unique and I enjoy watching the whole process. In other videos they only show the final plan as if there was no struggle before. Keep on having fun playing around with your creativity. Thank you for this video. The feather mountains are ready for the frame. Btw I reeeeally like the car with people inside in the forest (covering up the elephant) It feels like they will explore something very special. Maybe a head of a shower or giant sweets.

I really liked the end result, it's very different to your usual collages. It's great that you showed the parts that didn't work out too; it's helped me realise that I don't have to persist with the first idea I have, sometimes it's just not going to work and that's fine.

Yes! It's totally okay to move on if something isn't working. No need to force an idea if it isn't right.

Yes! That was something that took me decades to learn as an artist. I just didn’t know that was part of the process.

Firstly I would like to say how wonderful your videos are. I have become super inspired by your ideas and collages - thank you. Secondly - you make it look soo easy! I have been scanning 45 magazines for images and have chosen hundreds - but I am still not ready to stick anything down. I am not giving up! 🇦🇺🦉😀

I love how you knew you weren’t happy with the original feather design…. and I loved the final product 🙌 I do have a request for you Rosie….. I’d love to see you do miniature people wandering around in a garden with big tall flowers and grass etc, maybe with a big ant or bug of some kind. Ala Land Of The Giants 😁

Wonderful! It's beautiful ❣ I really admire your showing the process of your creations, and that not everything follows a successful plan (A to B to...). There's a lot to say about following your heart to unsuspected, remarkable results ❣ Thanks for sharing this video...it's a teachable moment on the road to success. 🤗👏

Hello Rosie. I've got the images I harvested ages ago from the same mag. I was initially drawn by the photographic clarity and colour saturation. I have them in a folder to use for a collage.😀

Dont be so though on yourself... it is beautifull and thanks for sharing yourr struggles. What absolutely admire in the way you are collaging is that you have an idea upfront or it comes to you while browsing image. Me, I work from one beautiful element or background and follow the flow and my intuition. So different... interesting! @collage_bymannonu
