Surprising Answers From Fmr CIA Director Mike Pompeo on Spending, Defense & Entitlements
I never expect much from politicians. But Mike Pompeo, a possible candidate for president, surprised me.

Pompeo used to be CIA Director and Secretary of State.
I wanted to talk to him because he might run for president.
I confronted him about Republican hypocrisy on spending.
I pushed him on whether he’d cut entitlements.
Would he abolish the Department of Education?
His answers were not what I expected.

A commonly overlooked fact: Our Social Security system is no longer just for "Grandma" - my own sister-in-law when she turned 18 got full Social Security (SSI) even though she was able to work and both parents were still alive and working - Soc Sec has morphed into not just retirement for people who worked and paid into it their entire lives in the USA, but a form of Federal Welfare - another couple of examples: several of my friend grew up in the USSR and now have careers here making more than $100k each, yet their parents now here, having never worked a day in USA collect full Soc Sec PLUS full Medicare. No long the Soc Sec FDR signed into law... now it includes many who never paid Soc Sec taxes. Why are these facts not even mentioned ? John, you should understand this too.

On the flip side, there have been hundreds of politicians who have done exactly what they have promised. We should be skeptical of every difficult promise and look at that individual's track record. You are correct that we have been lied to by politicians plenty of times, but we shouldn't have been surprised after the first time they were elected. We keep electing career politicians who have lied every step of the way (ahem, Biden!) And we somehow expect them to be honest this time around. That is primarily the fault of the American voter. We should be more involved in the primaries so we don't end up with choices we don't like in the general election. If we keep voting these people in, we sort of deserve what we get.

The problem with the Social Security System is that our own federal government keeps "borrowing" stealing money out of it.
Can't wait
It's strange that he didn't mention parents being involved in their children's education.

Well that's kinda the point the govenor, teachers, superintendent, and board all answer directly to the parents in the state. He was saying parents without saying parents because for some reason it's the boogeyman when talking about education.

I’ve heard Sec. Pompeo advocate parents’ involvement in their children’s educations. He probably didn’t mention here because he has said it enough times in the past.

He sounds great. Which is why he probably has no chance.
John Stossel, you are one American I know, who has his head on straight.
Love the interview and he should run for Presidency to give Americans excellent choices of candidates.
Great interview!! I’m looking forward to getting the full interview next week.

wow, really? creepy
Release the full interview now, John!!!
Keep going John, you are hitting the important points.
I'm sure there are many other departments that need to be eliminated or pared down substantially. I'll keep on stating, that when there is a government shutdown, they send home non essential workers. Why are we not eliminating these non essential jobs then?

Most of the value of lots of department could be had by just having them define terms and then enforcing truth in advertising laws: You don't have to do X, but if you say you are doing X and aren't, then you will get in trouble. Much of the rest could be had as pure empirical research operations. That still leaves room for issues (defining existing terms to be something nobody expects? selective enforcement? politically motivated selection of terms?), but it would pare down the room for a lot of overreach.
Great video; I’m looking forward to seeing the full interview.
