At a certain point, the stepfather to the lead actress says, “For some people, feeling pain isn’t an option.” I realized the same thing a long time ago, and it has helped me not be angry, bitter or hurt. As a culture, Americans are generally grief-illiterate. When we lost our son five years ago, we also lost most of our friends and even family because people avoided us - it made them uncomfortable to be around us, and so they chose not to be. That one line above is profound. Someday, someone in your life will experience the loss of a loved one. Please, be there for them - not just the week after, but especially 3, 4, or 5 months afterward. Call them, ask them how they are doing, invite them for coffee - you never know how much it may mean to them.

Very sorry for your loss, and I hope that your friends and family eventually found the right way to communicate with you. It’s true that some people simply don’t know what to say, do, and how to behave to help the grieving ones. So, they disappear, not necessarily out of selfishness, well, at least, I hope that’s been the case with your family and friends….. Again, my heartfelt sympathies, no parent should go through pain like that!

We have 6 kids, we had 6 foster kids and have 8 grandkids. We love our story and we know we were meant to be US. Marriage can be tough at times, but we have always known we can do it together!

She did right by ditching 'the narc'. She knew it from the start in her gut that he was a player! Women should listen more to their intuition, no matter what other people say or see, because they are just by-standers while You ARE, the main role in your own movie called 'Life'! .... Once he knew he got her heart, he changed his character. This is what happens a lot in real life, too. So this movie was very authentic. Glad she got back with her 'old best friend.' Also, if you don't like yourself anymore and aren't happy in your own skin with the one you're with, then he is the wrong person. Jeff did a lot of 'bread-crumbing' and 'future-faking'! .... He was all show and not real. The therapist was hilarious! Loved her! ♥

This is a very nice movie. (Also spoiler forward) The way Jeff was behaving afterwards pointed to him being a narcissist. He also acted like the issues were with her, gaslighting her. Typical of narcissist! One line that her friend said to her really clicked 'This is who you are with Jeff." making her realise how she was so much in pain in that toxic relationship and that love isn't supposed to be like this.

I like what they did with this movie. It shows that it's okay to feel things. It also shows how trauma can effect someone in ways we wouldn't imagine. My only gripe with the movie is the ending. I think Genie needed to take time to be with herself and her feelings and not rush into a new relationship. I get that they are best friends and love each other, but I think having some time to reflect on and understand her feelings would make a big difference. Often times, we live in the future, wondering what our life will be like, who we'll marry, how many kids we'll have, but it's important to stay in the present and understand what is going on.

We all have emotional rollercoasters we ride through this lifetime. Our emotions were given to us to be able to feel each one and to it fullest, savor the experience of joy, sadness, worry, excitement, fear, depression, anxiety, desire, pensiveness, love, anger, jealousy and yes, even guilt. In traditional Chinese Medicine, as Acupuncturist, we are taught learn to feel and then balance these feeling, first in ourselves [physician heal thyself] before we may be able to release the suffering of another, our patients. It is a taoist method to balance, just like nature as water flows to the sea, where clouds form and rains come. This movie was truly a 'Surprise' to Me. Thank you to Jonathan Bennett and all of the people who contributed to this experience. May you and yours...Be In Good Health.💞

This movie was very layered and insightful. It illustrated a perfect example of narcissistic abuse with the "Love Bombing", gas lighting, projecting and manipulation that keeps you in this emotional train wreck of a relationship. It also showed us the co-dependent component that result from the main's character's abandonment [Dad's death] and rejection trauma [Mother's avoidance of the dad's death].

Spoiler alert, but I think it needs said. The guy she is dating is not merely a jerk as sometimes happens in a movie. He is emotionally/ psychologically abusive to her. I think his behavior is really gross and distracting from an otherwise neat movie. I love how she grows through the movie. Great cast.

True-to-life film. Now I understand the comments re: the twists & turns, & glad I'd read a few, otherwise personally I'd have bailed... Not that it was bad, but I don't like for people to get mistreated. Lotta great life quotes throughout, for me. The lead made great strides in growth, & the film ended how it should have.

@@mariegenius Damn straight. Having finally learned to read the signs by the third such relationship at age 54, I found myself tensing up, and recoiling at every scene with "Jeff", beginning in the supermarket. The actor played this part REALLY well; his smile and the look in his eyes were totally cringe, as a 'player's' would be. Easy for me to spot, now, but as a slow learner, I wasted 21 years of my life learning to recognize the manipulation and gaslighting.

If someone I just meet unloads that much personal trauma on me, I don’t continue spending time with them because, I’m not trained for that and I’m not a paid therapist. Yes, I’m an empath which is why they unload. However, if I walk away from a conversation feeling their pain on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd interaction, I’m inclined to think they have issues with personal boundaries. Go talk to your buddies, preacher and/or therapist.
