Surprise at the dump! Anvil. Why do people throw out it?
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
The blacksmith's anvil weighing 60 kg is found at the point of reception of scrap metal. She was so good and in perfect condition, it was impossible to pass by and not pick up. In the video you will see a detailed recovery process and how the anvil was mounted on a birch deck.

As a kid I remember going with grand-pop many times to the salvage yard to scavenge and save what folks threw out. Pop's work shop was filled with tools he found and restored. When he passed grandma gave them to me. He was a kind and gentle man and taught me to respect and honer everything in life. Every time I touch and use those tools...I hear his voice. Your video brought back many memories, thank you!

Thank you so much for watching and commenting on my videos! I am very pleased that it gave you pleasure!

@@budilov where do you come from? You have a very good talent in recognition of all things, something not so prevelant where I'm from, we just use things, break them, go buy new things, a never ending American cycle, so I subscribed to see your other creations. Good video and thanks for showing the process of turning 'scrap metal' into treasure. The reason someone threw it out might be that they weren't prepared to put any work into keeping it in good condition. That is to your advantage and I hope the anvil serves you well for many years, you deserve it.

The anvil face was good the way it was.If you weld the face and grind it you will ruin the hardness of the anvil face. The beauty of an anvil is the rebound it produces.I have seen great anvils that have been wrecked doing this. Some welding experts that specialise in anvil restoration use stoody hard facing rods and weld half an inch at a time to not ruin the tempering. There is plenty of information of the net regarding this, but an anvil would need to be unusable before i even thought of such a thing.

“It looks like you did a nice job”. I would suggest that you use “hard facing” on the areas that you built up on the table edges should you decide to use it for heavy active use. If you decide to become a professional blacksmith, I would get rid of the tool holding rack on the front of the stump and then consider placing them on the side of the stump if you feel it is important to have them. Most likely the tools located on the front of the stump would be not be a problem for your use and needs as a hobby smith. I was a blacksmith for over 60 years, and found that you need to keep the space around your anvil free and clear of any obstruction so as not to impede the activity of forging and bending in any way. Thank You for the video!
