Building a Mobile Anvil Stand - Blacksmithing
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
My old anvil stand was a tree log which wasn't high enough and caused back issues due to the bending over to use it. I've made a new anvil stand which is higher and more functional and most importantly, mobile. Having a small workshop, this is important so I can keep juggling tools and equipment around in their location.
The anvil stand is made from Spotted Gum hardwood timber which I had at home, also scrap steel and a piece of scrap copper. The weight of the stand is considerable due to the hardwood. The handle mechanism lowers the castors when needed to move the anvil and then raises them back up when it's in place and ready for beating hot steel. Thus providing a secure stand whenever the anvil is in use.
I want to give credit to @jimmydiresta for the idea of the lifting mechanism. If you haven't seen Diresta's videos go check him out - he's taught me a lot over the years and he is an extremely talented builder and maker. Thanks Jimmy!
I'm sure many people have been wondering where I've been and why I haven't uploaded any videos for some time. Let's just say that life sometimes throws you a massive curveball that is hard to deal with. I've had multiple of those in the last couple of years. I guess the real trick is to double down on life, persevere, adapt and take solace in those loved ones in your life. We just have to keep on going putting one foot in front of the other!
Enjoy the video & keep on learning!

I was good with this anvil stand at about 7:30 minutes in. Fantastic idea and craftsmanship.
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection kzread.infoUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
excellent demonstration of redhot metals ability to stay still or even bend backwards ....one of the first things I ever made was a scroll over the anvil horn and it kept doing exactly that....took me a while to work out not to hammer it but bend it round instead ...I remember my mentor winking at me when he saw I had worked it out (I wasnt very old)...it looked terrible but it did spiral ....he hung it in the what can we do better next time corner of his forge, There were some things of his in there which made me very pleased with myself ...
I've been searching for a idea for my anvil. This is the best stand build I have seen anywhere. I love how you blocked the anvil to the stand (I've always been told not to anchor an anvil down solid , that it could cause breakage. I'm definitely going to build mine like yours. THANKYOU for sharing!
The doggy controlling your work , aww so awesome gentle company ♡
I was ecstatic to see this video! But just all so more just happy to see you were back! About a year and a half ago I inadvertently saw a post your wife made on Facebook I commented and was surprised to find out she was your wife. After reading and hearing about all that’s happened I gave her my condolences and told her I hoped to one day see you back doing these incredible projects that you do. I’m so happy to see you back, Will! And you’re right, you’ve got to just keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep going. My father taught me that in my hard times as well. Most of all I hope you and your family are doing well! Great to have you back!👍🏼

Russ.. If you look closely, the Axe is on the back wall 😉 x
Cleverly designed wheel lift. I was watching and thinking about how bad an idea it is to pound on ball bearing wheels, though the small anvil wouldn’t make that too bad. But when I saw your construction, I realized that wouldn’t be a problem. Very clever.
This is a great video on how to build an anvil stand assuming one already has an anvil stand.
Well I gotta say, 9 pieces of 4x4 sounds WAY better than waiting on a tree to fall, epic fix sir.
Good to see you back Will. Excellent work as always.
Love the simple leaver solution! Works perfectly. Great stuff.
Fantastic to see you back at it !
Min. 14:10. El perrito: "No hagas ruido, déjame dormir!" Jajajaja jajajaja 😆😆

@@WillMatthews I suffer with anxiety and PTSD so I have learned the hard way what happens if I don’t look after myself. I keep telling myself that 1 day I will build your belt grinder... the only thing stopping me is the control wiring and a lack of space.
@WillMatthews

I'm sure you'll nut out the control wiring! Space though might be a bit harder to organise. Will have to get creative!
Awesome video and fun to watch.
Like your attention to detail and the follow thru to completion beyond the just good enough to get by with.
That's a nice anvil, it's got a really nice ring to it. glad you secure it the same way I do mine, I love the ring of a good anvil
I could NOT figure out wth you were trying to do 'til about 17:15. That's a damn fine build right there.

That amazing 👏
the idea with the raising casters is great I like that a lot...its a great stand Can I just say though please don't use woven gloves around a wire wheel, there is way too much potential for it to catch the fibres of the glove and ride your arm down through the wheel causing some really nasty injuries and definitely spoiling your month.
Awesome work mate it looks great keep the videos coming .............. Thumbs Up

Super Idee. 👍
It becomes readily apparent that steel is not the best solution for all problems. When do you start adding aluminum?
muy bueno!!!!

Hey mate! I saw you use diggers degreaser in the chainsaw video, i figured you must be Aussi! What state are you in? I found your channel and am so pleased to see you're back. Warmest regards, Tom from WA
Good
inspiring :)
Sólo una observación, esa planchuela sera de 1'x1/8?? Por que no la dobló en frío? ?? Es menos laborioso, de todas formas muy buen trabajo
hola que buen video
nice work! May I ask what you call that blue curve ruler that you use?
What is your workbench top coated with? Like in your previous few videos?
What a spectacular design. Curious why you have 2 different length of rods to your pivots though? At any rate, love the design, looks like a million bucks

Cool design although I probably wouldn't have made the lever out of copper, but because I park my car in my garage/workshop I'd have to use that lever mechanism a lot more than he probably would.
