@@Fister_of_Muppets Absolutely. Not in doubt at all. I’m just a complete dork and if I could afford it, owning a rifle that was once a CAG operators gun or at the very least in CAG inventory would be awesome. I can’t help but wonder where the gun has been, in who’s hands, and what it has done and seen in its time before it got to the auction. For me the gun itself is less what you pay for and the story/history and provenance is what you’re getting with a piece like this or the Delta STI pistols that Ian has featured. Just so cool to know that this was a T1 operators weapon.

@@yetanother9127 I definitely NEVER say I’m ex military. That carries a negative connotation and military service members know the difference. Ex military members might have been separated dishonorably, under other than honorable conditions, or received a BDC. Even if you were discharged under honorable conditions, ex military implies you aren’t proud of your service, resent your time in the military, and want to distance yourself from that time in your life. Former military isn’t specific enough to civilians. They don’t know the distinction between ex and former so they don’t know when they’re being disrespectful or not. Prior military or prior service kinda makes sense but it sounds weird. I just say I’m a Veteran when people ask. The next thing they usually ask is my Branch and where I served. There’s no confusion as to what you are when you say Veteran. Veteran says you trained, you served, you’re proud of your service, and you left under honorable conditions regardless of whether you retired or ETS.

Not sure where you live but if it's in the U.S., and barring any criminal history that would keep you from owning firearms, you can build one. Well, a match grade .308 AR10. Focus on the barrel and trigger, everything else can be done on the cheap if you want. I have 2500.00 into mine but I went with forged matching upper and lower receivers. A 24" Rainier match barrel and a CMC 2 stage 2/2 trigger. I did it piece by piece as funds allowed. With Berger match ammo it will print a 1/2" 5 shot group. If it was re-barrelled a bit before it was returned to Knights then that makes sense though.

@@Jay22222 At a company level taking advantage of something like your relationship with Delta to make a few more bucks on some of their returned equipment just isn't worth it. Most spec ops groups don't want their associations widely known and would be peeved at a company publicly cashing in on a relationship like that. Keeping a good relationship with Delta who as Ian said helped them perfect the design (and probably paid for a good part of that R&D as well) into something that the US army and navy would want is just far more profitable. Keeping a good relationship with a well-respected group with deep pockets and a desire for high quality unusual equipment is a huge boon to anything they want to sell. You also have to consider quantity. I don't know how many were returned but I doubt it was much more than a hundred or so. Even if they sell them for say 5x their original price... well that's only equivalent to 500 regular sales for a company that has a contract to make them for the entire US army and navy...

Ian, Boots Obermeyer made all the early barrels for the Knight SR25 rifle that went to Delta. They were all done single point and in a one man shop. Boots turned out 500 a month for a few years. Boots then set up production for Knight at their own factory and taught them how to make their own barrels. I actually lapped a few of those barrels when I had a little spare time. The quality control at Boot's shop was quite stringent and he always had a supply of seconds that would still shoot like a house afire, so I picked up a few.

This. This right here, is what the AR platform was built for. The entire point of the buffer-tube was to mitigate the recoil of .308, and the original purpose of direct impingement was to solve growing pains involving soldiers melting their barrels from overuse, by creating a deliberate failure point. The SR-25 is exactly what the AR platform should've evolved into by default, not as an exception.

Speaking of Knight's Armament, have you guys at Forgotten Weapons heard of or ever been able to get a hold of a KAC PDW? It was a compact PDW style rifle that used a proprietary 6x35mm cartridge that was supposed to have similar recoil to 5.56 out of a 10 inch barrel but substantially better ballistics. They were developed in the early 2000's to be submitted for a military review, but wound up not getting adopted, but reportedly saw very limited use with the US Secret Service. Now they seem to have been legitimately forgotten to the point that only a small handful of videos exist of it on YT and looking it up mostly comes up with Airsoft clones. One other thing to note, it also featured a dimpled barrel like the SR-25 here.

Full auto is for machine guns and if you don't have machine gunners then you're SOL and need to plan accordingly. FA will just waste ammo, piss off the enemy and give up your location.
