Surgical Anatomy of the Axilla / Axillary Dissection

This video covers the surgically relevant anatomy and boundaries of the axilla. Too many anatomy textbooks focus on extensively describing the shape of the space and exactly what muscles make up each individual boundary, to the point where it's difficult to keep it all straight. This video keeps it barebones, focusing on the key structures that must be identified and preserved, and which boundaries you are going to be actually looking for surgically to complete a safe and thorough axillary dissection. We then briefly describe an axillary dissection using the previously defined anatomy as a guide, and give some pointers on how to preserve those crucial nerves.

Years ago I had an axillary dissection. The surgeon used only local anesthetic.
