Question. Why do I see so many waves come up but only so few riding ? I see a wave come up and 50 surfers go over the top but only one or two rides. Thus is completely new to me.

Multiple people on a wave is an exception, low consequence waves with friends. You don't interrrupt a ride of the person who has priority(is deepest). Especially at pipeline or any other dangerous wave. You would only see more than one person riding as a result of a mistake or extreme disrespect.

The peak shifts but a lot of people pack together thinking that is the best spot. If you sit off to the side you can catch the peaks that swing wide.

Did the Wolfpak retire or wot? No regulation on the break it looks like. Off peak hours? Nutz kine crowd.
