That was a great comparison. I'm honestly getting a bit tired of the "reviews" comparing them to Macs - what we need is a comparison to x64 Windows. The fact you were able to get virtually the same machine in both trims is perfect. Thanks for that

Nice to know the snapdragon can hang with the intel model and be twice as efficient in some cases

The Pro 10 has anti-reflective coating which probably explains in bright conditions it appears to have deeper blacks. Buying matte AR screen protector should help a bit in theory with the 11 Pro.

@@DanielHarrisCodes Yes no AR as well I believe (at least not spec'd). It was said this was done to not reduce brightness. Either way I have good experience with matte AR screen protector but I don't often watch movies so that might look better with more glossy protector. I compared 11 OLED with 11 IPS in store and black levels were very similar. Granted under bright lights so not typical. OLED was way too warm (reddish tint) but settings were locked so couldn't adjust it. There was more dynamic range but I really had to look for it. For extra $500 I'm not sold on the OLED personally but possibly it would perform better in darker conditions.

when comparing displays, did you set the SP11 to HDR off with vivid profile enabled? The SP10 doesn't have HDR I think. By default, HDR will make the display look warmer and more flat. That's because it's getting the wrong tonemapping information. Most content is not encoded in HDR so when non-HDR content is tonemapped to an HDR display, it will look somewhat dull. OLED helps mask some of that dullness but it'll still be dull. Windows still does not handle HDR content well. For proper presentation of HDR content, the player you use has to be designed for HDR, the display has to have HDR enabled, and the HDR content has to have the correct HDR profile. For example, if the content was tonemapped for HDR10 versus Dolby Vision. So Microsoft knows that much content is HDR. So they have a feature called AutoHDR which guesses the tonemapping. Sometimes it works well, other times not so well. When in doubt, set the machine to HDR off, Vivid on, adaptive color off, etc. etc. Then when you know you're watching HDR content in the proper player, set HDR to on. Vivid on the SP11 OLED is gorgeous so it's a good default.

The sp11 has the background light reflection in the field of view off where the sp 10 doesn’t. Maybe that is why the blacks seems brighter than the sp10.

I would be interested in seeing a SP9 to 10 comparison. Appreciate this is comparing arm to intel but if they would have released an intel SP11 then you may have had less power usage and speed increases purely due to better manufacturing processes. So it's hard to tell which of these improvements are due to arm Vs a new better CPU ( regardless of whether arm or intel )
