The side screw is used with a ground plane(metal that should have come with the meter) to test antennas. Not so useless I think.

I use one of these meters. For the money they do a pretty decent job to be fair. For checking antenna installations or radio output they are ideal.

I need you help I’m testing my GMRS radio and my VSWR and tran% is not moving . I’m I doing something wrong?

I believe it works plugged in so it shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks for this video; very informative. One question: does the device need to be power on in order to pass the RF to/from the rig, or what I need to take it out of circuit? Thanks.

Thanks for you're comment, no it doesn't need to be on to pass rf through so you can leave it connected all the time. You only need to power it up to take a reading

Another very interesting video, thank you so much for sharing. Rare to find this kind of measurements on youtube. One observation… the slight different results you had with the Spectrum analyzer could be a variation over the 30db nominal value of attenuation, couldn’t be? Like if the attenuator would provide -29.6db at that frequency for example.. would love to see the characterization of the attenuator with the tracking gen. Diego

Yes the spectrum analyzer is not the most accurate way to measure rf power but its all i had at the time, I now have a hp rf power meter which is as good as it gets unless you have loads of money. I have done a video on characterising various home made attenuators using the tracking generator & I have recently made a 30 db one which is within 0.2 db up to 2 ghz. Very hard to do!

Hi, what is the minimum measurable frequency for this swr meter? Thanks.

As it's designed for 2m & 70cm I didn't test it below 144 MHz so I can't tell you, but I don't think it would work much lower than this

hi I'm IU8MLV, in my radio station I have a 25-28 Mhz CB radio and a Yaesu FTM400 radio (VHF UHF), I have a 26-28 ZETAGI HP202 double needle wattmeter rosmeter to measure the CB radio emission and a wattmeter Rosmeter Hoxin SX 40 (125 / 450Mhz) with double index. I also have two VNAs (miniTiny and nano vna). I have a Chinese GY560 wattmeter frequency meter. I decided to buy stuff a little more serious and precise so I have a Daiwa CN901 HP3 which is a double needle wattmeter which measures PEP AVG and the SSB peak however is from 1 to 200Mhz. I am missing something to measure the UHF this Surecom sw 102 original version would you recommend it? Is it more accurate than a Hoxin SX40 twin needle? (which then has several Proxel clones, Diamond etc. etc.) The GY 560 has a frequency that is accurate but I have my doubts about its wattmeter. I did not buy a Daiwa dual band (140 / 525Mhz) wattmeter rosmeter like the CN 501, because previously I bought a Nissei DG503 triband wattmeter (1.6 -60Mhz / 125/512 Mhz) and after a day I bought it. returned to the seller because the SWR measurements were very bad, buying the Daiwa CN 901HP3 having lost faith in the triband. As an alternative to the surecom sw 102 which wattmeter rosmeter for UHF do you recommend?

Merry Christmas & happy new year to you! You sure have a lot of meters for measuring swr & power. Yes I would highly recommend the Surecom, its within its specifications of 5% accuracy, I cant say weather it would be any better than the other meter you mentioned as I haven't got one to compare! But I think its a decent meter at a cheap price. one disadvantage over an analogue meter is this one needs power to work so you can't leave it on all the time. I'm sure you would be happy with it if you bought one Regards Nick

Not really no, as the one I was testing was not mine & belongs to a friend, if it was mine I would open it up & disconnect the battery that should reset it
