In a bid to attract more tourists to Surat city, the Tapi riverfront in Surat city will be developed like the Sabarmati riverfront in Ahmedabad, for which Rs 1,991 crore will be allotted, Gujarat Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai announced in the state budget 2022-’23 on Thursday.
A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) has already been formed for the Tapi riverfront development project with Surat Municipal Commissioner BN Pani as the managing director, and Surat district collector and mayor among other directors.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Pani said, “We are happy that the state government is also interested in the Tapi riverfront project and has granted Rs 1,991 crore. The project is estimated to cost over Rs 3,904 crore and will be funded by the state government, the central government and the World Bank. We have sent a Detail Project Report (DPR) to the World Bank for evaluation. If convinced, the World Bank will sanction a loan of Rs 1,500 crore. We are carrying out dredging activity and cleaning of the river.”Tapi is a perennial river that runs through Surat and serves as a lifeline for over 6.5 million people.
However, as it approaches the Arabian Sea, the river becomes extremely volatile in character. It carries saline tidal backflows to the city during high and low tides all the way up to the Singanpore weir, a weir cum causeway built to supply drinking water to Surat and prevent flooding.

तापी रिवरफ्रंट विकास परियोजना के लिए एक स्पेशल परपज व्हीकल (एसपीवी) का गठन पहले ही किया जा चुका है, जिसमें सूरत के नगर आयुक्त बीएन पाणि को प्रबंध निदेशक और सूरत के जिलाधिकारी और महापौर सहित अन्य निदेशकों को शामिल किया गया है।
द इंडियन एक्सप्रेस से बात करते हुए पाणि ने कहा, “हमें खुशी है कि राज्य सरकार भी तापी रिवरफ्रंट परियोजना में दिलचस्पी ले रही है और उसने 1,991 करोड़ रुपये दिए हैं। इस परियोजना पर 3,904 करोड़ रुपये से अधिक की लागत आने का अनुमान है और इसे राज्य सरकार, केंद्र सरकार और विश्व बैंक द्वारा वित्त पोषित किया जाएगा। हमने विश्व बैंक को मूल्यांकन के लिए विस्तृत परियोजना रिपोर्ट (डीपीआर) भेजी है। अगर माना जाए तो विश्व बैंक 1500 करोड़ रुपये का कर्ज मंजूर करेगा। हम ड्रेजिंग गतिविधि और नदी की सफाई कर रहे हैं।”

@@vishalamu it's very tough to transform downstream cities of yamuna because most of the water is stored in hathinikund barrage and 50% water is released towards delhi and after delhi lot of waste water untreated is realised in the yamuna river ..and then comes okhla barrage where only 30% water is left to be released to downstream cities .. that's why first we need crores of investment in STP Projects in delhi after that we can expect such riverfront projects in Agra or mathura because even foul smell comes when you approach towards yamuna

For Tapi riverfront project, there is separate PSU "Tapi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited".
Pune riverfront should be developed like Ahmedabad. The economic scope is enormous in Pune city.

Work already started, it will be much better than the Ahmedabad riverfront because it is mostly made up of concrete and only 11km long , mula mutha rejuvenation project will be 44 km out of which only 13% will be concrete and rest of part will be made up of natural material

@@sahilshimpi5903 it's not going well, no proper planning, work is not going on properly, NGT recently ordered PMC to not release any new work orders. So many obstacles the project has. And I don't think it would be quite as good as Ahmedabad.

After riverfront there is called vasna barrage than industrialist water dump in river without recycling that's way those areas was polluted not whole river

Mr Southie The river comes under the jurisdiction of the state government so don't argue without knowledge. Also learn to spell state names properly, it's Gujarat. Surat is 8th largest city of India and contributes to both state and centre exchequer including forex revenues in a big way so even central funding if any won't be unjustified. There are development projects happening in every corner of the country so stop your hate for Modi and look at development as development without a biased lens.
