Summary(Important Points) Surah Yusuf Part 18: How is it Beautiful Patience? 1. To believe in or to believe someone, in Arabic, the "BA" is used but here it is "LANA", "LAAM" is used to give in or to surrender to someone. So, when they say "LANA", they mean "You won't surrender to(not believe in) us." 2. There some narrations, in Tafseer books, about this story but they cannot be authenticated. 3. Yaqub(AS) did not believe them as he(AS) was aware of the animosity of the brothers against Yusuf(AS). 4. Secondly, Yaqub(AS) knew about the dream and it meant that Yusuf(AS) was not going to get killed by a wolf. 5. When you find a promise in the word of Allah, no matter how compelling the evidence is, how pressuring the reality is, that doesn't stand on what Allah has given you. This promise is not just revelations to Prophets, Qur'an is a word of Allah too. 6. When you hold on to Allah's words, your loved ones will get angry with you, will try to bully you. It happened to a Prophet, what do you think will happen to us? 7. Also, emotional manipulation is a constant theme in this story, this happens when a criminal is looking for a victim by playing the victim. This can happen to us too. We should not get manipulated and should always stand by justice. And this is not just limited to sadness, it can be angry too. 8. The "On his shirt" part is early, this shows that Allah is not only angry that they hurt him(AS), He is offended that they tried to strip his(AS)'s dignity. 9. And "KAZIB" does not mean false, it means falsehood. It means that they brought false blood that leads to the ongoing falsehood. 10. Sometimes, a child can get caught up in a lie, and then they have to make a quick calculation and they think like "If I tell the truth now, that's probably worse. So, let me just stick to the lie." Adults can go even further because it is a matter of pride. This is what happened to Yusuf(AS). 11. And it's not just pride here, the brothers want to look good in their father's eyes. And if they accept now, they will never look good in their father's eyes. 12. "TASIFOON" is used when people paint a false picture for Allah like it's the falsehood that is very big. Yaqub(AS) uses it for the falsehood that the brothers have invented, meaning it is a big falsehood. 13. The word 'beautiful' does not fit here. It's unfathomable. 14. But patience is beautiful as it's resigning events to the will of Allah. 15. Secondly, acknowledging that the one I'm resigning events to is more knowledgable, more capable, more just than me. 16. Thirdly, the right kind of patience will lead to beautiful things eventually. We have to protect our faith because emotions like sadness, lust, and anger will try to take it out of our hearts. 17. Also, it is not an accident that the one Yaqub(AS) lost was beautiful. So he(AS) replaced the beautiful thing he(AS) lost with a beautiful form of patience. 18. Yaqub(AS) has a promise of Allah and he(AS) was not going form a negative image of Allah. He(AS) will still hold the view that Allah is beautiful and Allah loves beautiful things. 19. If there is a form of patience that is beautiful, then there must be a form of patience that is not beautiful. 20. Also, patience does not mean you don't cry or complain. It's that you cry only in front of Allah and you complain only to Him. 21. Patience means even if someone does not do you good, you do them good. 22. And don't do good to them because of them, do good to them because Allah is watching you. 23. Patience, also, is not passive, you don't just sit back and do nothing. Patience is active, you persevere to stay on the right course. This ends the summary. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Ustad Nouman Ali Khan talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair

Point no 20-23 can be misleading without a proper understanding of the whole story/meaning. especially on domestic violence. there are so many women out there “persevere” in the name of “beautiful patience” which is totally wrong and unfathomable.

@@roxanna3276 Thanks for the info. I think I checked in a couple times last year and found it quite confusing to register for the course, so gave up. Or if I recall, I gave up because of my inability to pay the fee for the course given my constraints. I pray that Ustad Nouman will one day be able to also post for free the Arabic Language lessons here on KZread same as he does the Tafseer. Hoping sooner than later. May Allah reward him in the best possible way.

Great Analogy! The word of Allah presents a certain world view. It makes you look at reality in a certain way. And when your connection with Allah gets weak, then the reality looks very different. When you have Quran glasses on, everything looks different, and when you take them off, it seems different. Quran creates an entirely different world view. You get dust on Quran glasses, so you have to refresh and clean them continuously so you can see the reality through the word of Allah.

@@maryamkhan9277 my glasses are pretty dirty these days. But when you pick up the Quran and understand and read Allah clears up those glasses for you.

With each video, I keep saying: this is unbelievable... I have been searching for any video on surah Yusuf for such a long time (I was always mesmerised by surah Yusuf since childhood, and everytime I go through hardship, I hang on to it for some reason...) especially during March. Couldnt find any that kept my attention. Just as I gave up, you started going deeper with it all of a sudden, and that fills up my heart as I'm being made felt that I'm not alone... Thank you... I will definetly go over them, once I can continue lstening without getting too emotional/crying, and feeling so hungry for the info... I hope these fountain of knowledge and sharing will find me again, when I'm at a more level headed condition. May you and your families be blessed with each breath...

@@nadarfa9413 1- I'm not your sister. 2- Using a noun on its own is not enough, make up a sentence, if you want to convey a "message". 3- Even then, just cause a person can actually talk/write, doesn't mean you have a right to command or preach. 4- I'm sure Allah knows best and does best, so don't you worry about commanding or preaching others, especially when you know nothing about them or your own self, you might harm more. 5- I believe in wearing "the cardigan of modesty" as Nesimi said. May be you should try worrying about what people wear inside, and what are they made of, instead of the outer shell.

From now, this aya will be one of my favourites, regarding the light and beauty of the message in it. Our behaviour needs to be changed in all situations we face nowadays thanks to the good comprehension of the Word of Allah... Barak Allah ou fik cheikh.

There are so so many lessons in just this 1 hour that we need to normalize and make essential personal values, I may have to rewatch this 10 more times. 🤔

The best episode so far

I used to think what sufferings Yaqub Alaihsalam suffered. By surface reading of Qur'an and some stories about him it felt like that "only" separation from his son was his Aazmaish ..but now when I'm listening to these lectures it occurs to me how big was his pain and how relatable. He has to live with this truth that his son is out there, somewhere, Allah knows in what condition (I believe that he knows that Yusuf(A.s) is alive)and those who have done it they are living in his own house,lying about his lost son everytime..What a great tyranny it is to see the culprits and here he has to be a good father of them too Subahanallah.. I'm very ashamed to admit that I never took seriously his sufferings: for me it was just this; he has this one missing son from his life and not many events like in other prophet's lives which is absurd to think that way. Realisation hit me today about the pain he must have gone through,his suffering were not any less than any prophet .. May Allah forgive me for taking him so granted. It couldn't be possible to understand this perspective of his story, his pain if I hadn't listened to this lecture. Jazakalla khairun Ustadh and the team.

Don't blame yourself for that. We don't realise the pain of a parent, unless we become one. The fact that he became blind from tears explains the depth of his love for his child. It also makes us think of all those parents who lost their children to death, abduction etc. A miscarriage is never forgotten no matter how many kids we have. Parents can never taste peace if such a thing happens. May Allah protect us all.

They said, “O father, we went racing with one another, and we left Joseph by our belongings, and the wolf ate him. But you will not believe us, even if we were truthful.” ﴿١٨﴾ وَجَاءُوا عَلَىٰ قَمِيصِهِ بِدَمٍ كَذِبٍ ۚ قَالَ بَلْ سَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ أَنْفُسُكُمْ أَمْرًا ۖ فَصَبْرٌ جَمِيلٌ ۖ وَاللَّهُ الْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلَىٰ مَا تَصِفُونَ 18. And they brought his shirt, with fake blood. He said, “Your souls enticed you to something. Beautiful Patience! And Allah is the One Whose help is sought against what you describe.”

They way you've added descriptions and a human element to the narrative makes it easy to relate to and helps the beleive not just read, but read and understand and God willing implement the lessons.
