I concur with your views on Raag Hindolam, Sir. Though it does not count as 'mainstream' or 'heavy-weight'raag, it is the most splendid Raag in both Carnatic and Hindusthani Music with an instant appeal to our ears, heart and soul be it a novice or connoisseur listening to it. No wonder so many enchanting film songs in Tamil, Hindi and other languages are based on this Raag. It is one Raag which evokes both Devotional fervour and Sringara rasa in the same breath just as Darbari Kanada and Shubhapantuvarali are preferred for poignant and melancholic songs. Any earnest musician who doesn't induct Hindolam into his/her repertoire should be called out for serious dereliction and neglect of Rasikas' longings ! 😮

​Well put, sir! Hindolam is a great favourite with me too! What is special about this Raag is that it appeals to both laymen and connoisseurs alike! There's a special, distinctive charm about it that it leaves you sailing into some unknown raptures! Another reason could be that many famous, semi- classical film songs have been fashioned after it!

Really a beauty is their in Karnatic music...you always feel good after listening. Great singing super paka vadiyam.

I listen to Surabhi' s excellent rendition of this Royal song in Hindolam almost daily. The more I listen to it,the more I like it. The pakka vadyams were super. Though I felt the Violinist was a bit hesitant in the beginning,he also did perform magnificenly after that. Congratulations to all of them ,especially to Surabhi for her all time high performance.
