Even if I reamed out the oval mounting holes I don’t think it would line up properly with the rotor. It’s that far off. 😕

    Thanks for all the vids! Quick question though, Is that fork 110x20 boost? I'm asking cause I picked up a Fox 40 and I only found out on installation that it's a 110x20 boost and my caliper does not align with the rotor. With the wheel mounted the caliper mounting holes are offset roughly 5-10mm from the post mount fastener holes. What's your thoughts on this predicament?

  • @emotobros

    Hi guys I have a few questions, do you need to use a drop crown top clamp? Or do you just use the same top crown that comes with the fox 40s27.5 forks? Also if I use a direct mount handlebar clamps I won’t need to use those orange spacers will I? And one more question do you need a spacer for the front wheel that goes between the hub and the front brake disc? Thank you very much

  • @emotobros

    Hey Keith. We found that the travel exactly bottoms at the standard crown. It is pushing it a bit close and we’d probably go with a drop crown if we were going to do it again. Whether you need the 5mm spacer depends on whether you got the boost or non boost version 🤘🏽

    ΛLỈΞИSИΞΛK ΛLỈΞИSИΞΛK you are somewhat right on that. The stock BMS allows 85amps continuous which will give a ~15% increase in power. However, you can BMS bypass it and run at max cell discharge (105ish amps). There are a couple problems with doing that though. 1 is that you are pushing cells to max discharge which can wear them out quicker, but also you lose the ability to balance your cells which we feel is very important. What we decided to do is completely replace the BMS with a high amp Bluetooth BMS from eBay. This will allow us to run 7000Watts and still balance our batteries.

    The only one reason I would not change to the fox 40 is cause of weight. I think the weight of the sur Ron is gonna be to much weight for the 40. Most bicyclists who use that fork are light as are the bikes they go on are too. The Sur Ron is about 50 to 60 kgs stock and most bicycles that put on a 40 weigh about 20 to 60 pounds depending on the style of bike you ride.

  • @emotobros

    @emotobros

    3 жыл бұрын

    What part of the Fox 40 do you not think can take the weight? It’s much sturdier than the DNM and is designed to take massive hits on downhill and free ride trails. The fox manual has suggested air pressure for rider weights up to 250 pounds but these forks are built with a pretty large factor of safety for reliability reasons so I would imagine unless your riding at red bull rampage and pushing 350 you won’t have any issues. The ability to ad air volume reducers is critical for tuning your air ramp at the end of the stroke for big hits. If your over 300 pounds and doing massive free ride hits then yeah, maybe reliability becomes a concern but then again a rider of that weight might be better suited on a full size dirt bike. Regardless though it’s miles ahead of the DNM as far as strength, rigidity and reliability goes. I would expect the head tube to break off at the welds from the frame or the rear suspension linkage to fail before the fox 40 would.

    It’s very much speed dependent, we have done mountain rides with 2000’ elevation gain over 20 miles up to top, turn around come down and have 50% battery with a slow rider. Then my daughter jumped on it in Moab and went full speed down dirt roads that were mostly flat and killed it in 20 miles. An average mountain trail ride seems to be in the 25-30 mile range. The faster you go the less miles you get.

    I missed the part where you looked at rigidity. One of the most important things for MTB forks on a dirt bike. Would also really like to see a lot less riding on stock settings and more emphasis on demonstrating the range of adjustment available. This video didn't really tell me anything I couldn't find out in 30 seconds of googling, aside from some too dark, low quality assembly footage. Plays too much like advertising BS to me. I understand its hard to make good content. Thanks for taking the effort and initiative. Hopefully my feedback can help next time. Also what would you recommend for a heavy rider that goes hard and really really wants something better than FOX 40 for a 20kw sur ron without paying double for a brand name? A Chinese bike should have Chinese forks right? Its not really about cost. Its about value, and not supporting fox. I'd spend more for better.....

    Think you also missed the part where this is just an installation and first impressions 😂. In all seriousness though, we are doing a full review of the fork but something like this needs to be thoroughly tested. Thanks for the feedback, this video was filmed on a GoPro prior to get our Full Frame which is why the footage was so bad. Our fox 40s were $850 after discounts and selling stock forks so I don’t know if you can beat that for the price. The problem with getting something “better” is that anything stiffer is for a moto bike and they completely ruin the balance of the bike. I think personally that the next best option after Fox is Marzocchi Bomber 58s. If you can find something better for the price let us know, we would love to check it out!
