I love this. Re-contextualizing the Fry Cook Games as an excuse to create a classic shonen-esque Tournament Arc is genius. Doubly so because a tournament arc is a perfect place to introduce and give greater information on a large cast of characters quickly, which lets the writers bring in a TON of references.

Hot take: Sandy vs Dennis is the best fight in the arc. Beautiful sakuga, amazing hand-to-hand fight choreo, great emotional moment where we find out how Dennis inherited his spike boots. Always felt like this fight got overshadowed by SpongeBob v Patrick.

Even hotter take, but Fred vs squidward was sooo good. It really showed squidwards abilities but it also shows how dangerous he can get, and Fred was such a noble fighter!! It's so sad what happened to him in the manga. No spoilers but his leg got really demolished.

I'm so excited for this arc to be animated!! It was one of my favorites because there is a lot of development for Patrick's character. I almost cried when he got brainwashed by Plankton, but he surprised us all after training hard to become a wise sage and fulfill the prophecy of the ugly barnacle. He really proved to readers he was no longer the simple minded starfish he once was, and that his name is not Rick.

The thematic parallels in this arc are unrivaled. Mr. Krabs and Plankton are former friends turned enemies, and we see SpongeBob and Patrick tread the same path and almost lose their friendship. Truly an anime of all time.

I really hope this animation does justice to the SpongeBob vs Hash-slinging-Slasher fight. That was my second favourite fight in the manga and the narrative payoff was spectacular. Would easily be one of the anime highlights of the decade if done right.

This arc in the manga is a solid 9/10. The flashback to Plankton and Krabs' breakup nearly got me in tears. When Plankton said "Are you Eugene Krabs because you're a crustaceous cheapskate or are you a crustaceous cheapskate because you're Eugene Krabs?", I felt that.

Already loved this arc in the manga, gonna love it even more in the anime ❤❤

The ending is perfect with the running super man punch scene going seemingly in the endscreen with the cool guitar riff and that awesome line 'you're my friend' 🙏🏻

SPOILERS I know people love the later part of the series because of the Spongebob and Squidward pairing/drama, but this personally will always be my favorite arc for the SpongeBob and Patrick emotions. I think as the series goes on Patrick is defined so much by being killed by Squidward that we forget what exactly made him so interesting towards the beginning!

Sandy vs Denis was one of my favorite fights from the manga. Not only did it introduce more of Sandy’s skills, but it’s such a good match and sets up Denis’s role in the arc. Can’t wait to see it animated .

That one was so intense. Not a lot of action, but great psychological drama and character development. And the tonal shift... it didn't just delve into average, everyday darkness; it stepped into... Advanced Darkness.

(SPOILERS) I really hope the anime continues with the story of Ms. Puff because she has an interesting background that I would love to see more of. This is truly one of the best arcs in the anime.

Spoilers: Mrs puff's husband died, the killer still uses his body as a trophy to decorate his dining hall, as if mocking her, who is unable to give him a proper burial. I think it was shown on the midlife crabsis arc, when Mr. Krabs tries to find another love interest because of his loneliness.
