Thanks for another great year of your reports. Keep an eye out in the South Pacific. There are large (30m+) vessels with AIS switched off and names covered over berthing in New Zealand. (Wellington was the last I saw. Trying to get a photo so you can ID this particular vessel.

Isn't this an interesting development. I can't see New Zealand allowing anyone illegal to get fuel in their country. They won't allow cruise ships that have any kind of scum on their hull to enter their waters and they are very specific about who can clean those hulls.

I spent a Christmas Party on one of these M/V ships. Our business owner was friends of the M/V owner. I have never felt like such a VIP before. I give all the credit to the crew even though we were staff.

I need to check my couch for loose change to see if I can win that yacht at auction.

If AIS is a legal requirement, why has NORD not been detained anywhere for "switching off" AIS repeatedly?

It is a legal requirement but it is only a civil violation not a criminal violation to turn off the AIS without an approved safety reason. The penalty for turning off AIS without an approved safety reason is $40,000. Repeated violations the penalty can go to a maximum of $100,000 per incident. Until the International Maritime Organization and its’ safety division International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) petitions United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to make repeated violations of turning off the ships AIS a criminal offense there is no legal resource or resolve to detain Nord or any other ship turning off their AIS. Alexey Mordashov is the owner of M/Y Nord, his 2023 net worth is $21.9 billion. He can easily afford to pay the penalty to keep the location of the yacht a secret. AIS was developed solely as a collision avoidance detection system. AIS is absolutely necessary in major commercial shipping lanes, in bad weather especially fog and at night in major shipping lanes. If the captain steers her out of major shipping lanes, stays underway in daylight hours, in good weather and clear visibility then there will be no safety issues with turning off the AIS. Additionally I am 100 percent certain that Alexey Mordashov is paying his captains good money to turn off the AIS in addition to their normally exorbitant salaries.

@@fukkyoutube International waters just means that no country has jurisdiction over that body of territorial water, it does not mean you can do whatever you want to do. M/Y Nord used to sail under a Cayman Island flag since April of 2022 Nord switched to a Russian Federation flag which she currently is registered under and sail under. A vessel in international waters is under the jurisdiction of the country that it is registered to and sail under, in this case that is Russia. If any crime is committed onboard the vessel and or the vessel itself is in violation of maritime laws then the IMO and or another country party to the IMO must criminally charge or indict the owner and or vessel AND said indictment must go to the country of registration in this case Russia for extradition and or seizure of the vessel if operating in international waters. Good luck with that.

Who knows what the real of value of something is until it is sold. Cost and value are two different things.

And all those who pay "Cost" are purely just stupid or ........ criminal. Because to waste those amounts of money there is little chance it comes from a 'legal' business. Granted there are very rich people in the world, but the sheer number of superyachts is amazing and when you see the mug shots of the owners (Those who aren't hiding behind offshore companies etc.) it's apparent that crime is everywhere.

It's not the €8-10 million purchase price that will get you, its the €1milion per year in running costs. The 2.5 and 5th years will come with additional costs of haul-outs and major surveys by Class and Flag. Year 7.5 may require a paint job and year 15 will have a Special Survey, possibly a mid-life update and another paint job. There is a reason why ships are called She...

@@MrPimpmygun Well, firstly, some owners like their yachts and use them regularly, secondly, some charter them to defray some of the costs and thirdly, for small value yachts (sub 20 million) the chances of making any money on a quick sale is small as broker fees and crew costs for those 3 months or so will eat any profit.

M/Y Liva O is starting to grow on me the more I look at her in more detail.

Whilst TV is one use with the advent of Starlink on a Yacht. Probably more importantly, on a yacht and any other vessel for that matter is the uninterrupted internet data link, that would be used by onboard officers liaising with boat / ship management company, and builders, manufacturers of various systems, i.e. equipment or machinery (IOTs) that monitor / adjust equipment or machinery performance. Yes a game changer!

On about buying a super yacht with a "Pedigree", Seen there is a 2008 73m Feadship "Predator" for sale that is supposedly linked to Iskander Makhmudov who is sanctioned by UK and USA .

That was fast depreciation in a year. Electric cars usually take 2 years or so to hit 50% depreciation and lux cars can take up to 5 years to hit 50%/60% depreciation.

The (purported) Belarusian owner is unlikely to appear before a French court, particularly in the current climate. The financial institution(s), professional firm(s) that facilitated the laundering would absolutely be prosecuted, and asset recovery wouldn't begin before any appeals were heard.

You should also have a poll for the worst looking yacht. There are no shortage of contenders.

However none the less really interesting presented by someone who's actually been there. I guess AGRASC is not striving to become a media star, but the acronym is pronounced in one word. Furthermore, I dare say that they have been exceptionally professional over the years and contributed a lot to the management of criminally obtained assets that have been seized or confiscated.

I think the Stephanie is really gorgeous....if I was a guy that wore 3 Rolex watches at the same time. Yes, that is sarcasm but I do think it is a lux gorgeous looking yacht.

That's not what happened here. This is nothing to do with Ukraine invasion. This is straight up money laundering and corruption.

I always like seeing MY Nord, she seems nord tour I us... not notorious though? But don't think the AIS destinations are fooling anybody. Not even sure why they bother. Very interesting that the auction is expected to be at such low value. I wonder if the reasons are because of possible claims against the vessel, or due to something structurally amiss, or whatever might be the reason. You too enjoy the holidays, have a joyous time and may you be healthy and prosperous.

Can you please go back to the types of videos you did pre the war in Ukraine. I really appreciated the video where you do in depth dives on different aspects of the yacht or yachting. Thanks.

Ah.. yet another Russian "Business Man"... hahaha... let me guess. the owner has scares on his face and is handy with let's say with the tools of the army... Now I have a question: What happens to the "girls" on the boat when all this mayhem is occurring? Does the crew ferry them off to a safe destination? Or, are they arrested too?.. as regard to NORD.. who is using this yacht. That's the story.

Normal people can only dream owning a destroyer sized yacht. Some of those insane Russian yachts are more like merchant yacht equipped with missiles & guns.
