Such a quirky, unique band. Two distinct writing styles and voices with Rick and Roger, John’s various wind instruments, a stellar rhythm section … nobody else sounded like them. Takes me back to high school, a *very* long time ago (sigh)

You guys are spot on when you say Supertramp does not miss. They are underrated, as La said, in the sense that the band is not usually mentioned today when the subject of all-time great bands comes up. But those of us who lived in the 70's and 80's know how good a band Supertramp is. And the production value of their albums, like Steely Dan, is top notch. Supertramp is super talented and sound super live.

Amazing how this song elevates where the sax comes in, though the sax is only responsible for half of that at most. And then the momentum carries through right to the end. I hadn't listened to their music in a long time, and only just recently noticed, watching several reactions, how Supertramp is always bringing little founts of creative inspiration to their composing that adds an extra dimension of interest to so much of their music.

This right here, this right here, was Supertramp's first commercial pop crossover hit. They went from primarily progressive AOR (album oriented rock) music that was strictly played on FM radio to AM radio. That 12 string acoustic guitar was the magical touch that propelled this bop to mainstream pop audiences and it worked!

Musicality. These musicians grew up playing a recorder in 4th grade and a real instrument after. Playing in a group as youth and gradually increasing your skills as a musician. The sixties and seventies generated great singers, composers and talented players. Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, what do they have in common? Musicality. The more youth is exposed to choir or band in elementary school the better your music will be. Unfortunately we do it all on computer now.

After the Breakfast in America record, singer Roger Hodgson left the band, leaving co-founder Rick Davies and the rest of the group to carry on. Davies was also the other singer on some of their hits. Since you guys love their progressive blend of music. Here are two songs to consider. The first is from Breakfast in America. The track CHILD OF VISION features Roger Hodgson. The next is from Brother, Where You Bound. The song is CANNONBALL sung by Davies. Enjoy.

They have 2 lead male vocals , Rick Davies who founded Supertramp and then Roger Hodgson who came in a few years down the road ! Their catalog is endless to say the least , You've got 4 of their top selling albums to choose from "Crime of the Century" "Breakfast in America" "Even in the quietest moments" and Crisis what Crisis ! You can't go wrong with any of those albums or any song off any of those albums ! When Roger Hodgson left the band he formed his own band and he still tours to this day ! He's probably on tour right now ! In the last 5 years I've seen him 3 times here in St. Louis , I never miss his shows and I pay a little over $300 a ticket , Because I am not sitting anywhere but front row ! And I've got 3 guitar picks from Roger to prove it ... lol .. All I gotta do is open up my shirt and show him my Supertramp tattoo which spans my entire collar bone and he smiles leans over shakes my hand and gives me guitar pick ! Huge thrill for me to say the least !
