STARBIRD -- my latest album of original music:
• Starbird (2022)
WEBSITE: coreyheuvel.com
I uploaded a version of this classic song with a basic video camera over 10 years ago and pretty much since that time you guys have been bugging me to upload it again with better quality audio / video. Here's one I captured recently on a livestream, I hope you enjoy!
"Superstition" was originally released in 1972 on Stevie's 15th(!) studio album Talking Book. It was a huge song back then and it still gets played all the time on radio, film etc. as well as being an obvious standard for musicians of all types. Truly, one of the greatest songs ever.
FUNFACT: Jeff Beck helped inspire the song by laying down the drum groove while Stevie sorted out the parts on the clavinet... Jeff Beck! On drums!?
Audio Setup Chain:

Yeah it's not easy to play. It's a complete feel song. Gotta have great rhythm to play it. This isn't how SRV plays it though, not at all.
Wow.. i’m speechless.
If anyone deserves to be famous it’s this guy. Not hard to tell he put the work in

Among everything this guy is good at, I think what really sets him apart is his ability to stay right on time during those ripping solos. Many people can't even stay on time with a whole band but he's just by himself. Killer cover as always!

@@garryprendergast6183 Because the same issue we face alone as musicians with tempo is only exacerbated with multiple musicians; each person has to keep tempo with one another, and any variance can sway the flow of the entire song. Watch a live video from like Dave Matthews Band or another good stage presence, and see if the tempo keeps the same bpm throughout or if they pick up or slow down over time.

What’s remarkable here is moving seamlessly from rhythmic parts to open soloing, while dropping in carefully placed muted strums and rhythmic motifs as place markers to help listeners keep track of the beat. I’m not a big fan of the ubiquitous click tracks to which most modern digital recordings are snapped. The tools available for digital music production today are amazing- GarageBand which comes loaded free on your IPhone has capabilities that George Martin and the Beatles could not even have dreamed of when they pioneered music creation in a multi track studio setting, but those click tracks can and often do give music a soulless and mechanical feel. This guy’s performances have what the creators from the pre-digital era that he mines for material also had- a flexible but strong and solid inner sense of time which informs every sound he makes.
For anyone new: Corey is one of the best acoustic guitarists I’ve ever seen. For years he has absolutely shocked me. He is up there with the likes of the best without a doubt, whether it be Tommy Emmanuel or Chet Atkins. He is a phenom and a major talent, and deserves far more recognition than he has.
You’re absolutely INSANE before the vocals start, and then I just about shit my pants when you started singing… Good lord man 🤯
So hard to strum, play lead and keep rhythm singing at the same time. Proper, well done 👏

Not hard for Corey! His just has that Natural Gift!
I truly mean this.... this is my favorite version of this song.. ever. Above both Stevies and everyone else. Omgooossshhhh
I left my jaw on the ground. That was seriously sick. I thought after seeing Satriani, Vai, SRV and other major guitarists I couldn't be impressed anymore. I was wrong. Unreal guitar and vocal skills. This guy deserves a big stage.
Your'e easily one of the most talented human beings of all time.
This is just incredible. The guitar riffs alone are outstanding, but then you somehow figured out how to sing in stride (and extremely well). If I had a full lifetime to practice guitar, this would be my goal. Bravo, Corey.
I have a bad habit of searching out covers to songs I love. Of all the covers of this song I have heard, they are all just making noise by comparison. You killed it man👍

Me too. Cover interpretations to me are much more interesting than originals. I am always looking and this was an amazing find.
Incredible talent on display here. It takes an enormous amount of discipline, practice and dedication to get to this level of proficiency. Just awesome.
I love how your first video was already mind blowing. Then you re do it 11 years later and totally Blow your own self outa the water with another performance. Please never stop making music
Corey you're gonna blow up in a while dude, keep strumming and doing your thing! Love from India
Wow, I keep coming back to this over the last several months. It is like a satisfaction to the soul. Thank you.
How does this not have 5000000 views with 2.5 million subscribers? This world has no taste!
Superb. Bringing out the jazz in Stevie. Singing's brilliant too. You make it your own while remaining absolutely faithful to the spirit of the original. The soul.
Maaaan you're unbelievable, the work you put in your covers deserves much attention and appreciation. Keep up you're original and true artist.
So so good. What a pleasure to watch that perfect acoustic playing and groove. Those fast chord changes are smooth as butter. An animal on guitar, somewhat reminds me of John Mayer.
Definitely the best acoustic cover I heard to this song , and I heard some good ones.
I cant stop playing this on repeat 😭😭😭 hits right in the feelies.
Hands down best acoustic cover of that song. Bravo!
The best cover of Superstition I've ever heard. I don't mean just the best solo acoustic version. I mean THE BEST VERSION EVER !!!!

YES! Finally, the (seemingly) more organized and meticulously coordinated cover version that I`ve always anticipated to arise throughout the livestream series and before. Better than I expected which is saying a lot - being a long time follower, even before I had a yt account to subscibe with.

Wow! Standing ovation! Incredible!
This gentleman is sincerely about it. Bravo sir 👏🏿
Wow, who could possibly give this a thumbs down? You are very talented...keep it up!
Piece of art
Corey - I was listening to your version of this that’s 11 year old a few weeks ago. I also commented suggesting you should do a new version with your new sound gear!! Even if it wasn’t to do with my comment, I am gonna take the credit!! 😂 I was literally just listening to your old tune on YT and I looked underneath and seen you did new version, 4 hours ago! As much as I love the old version, I am gonna enjoy this for a while and dare I say it’s even better. 👍🏻
Outstanding!! Great cover. Awesome skills.
On a livestream too - so essentially first take?! Mind-blowing.
love it! love it ! - I really enjoy a cover if it's a innovative and creative interpretation. Excellent, awesome, super dooper, super stition!
Yowza! That was incredible! This is a true demonstration of fretboard mastery! Bravo!
This is phenomenal talent. My word.
wow. thank you for playing this. its so good.
The real difficulty is having the discipline to study each part, and have the commitment to execute it precisely. Congrats to my bro
Manda muito, voz e violão parabéns! Você é fera de mais. Quase cair da cadeira na hora do solo Kkkk.
Fantastic version, great way to start the day! Thank you!
Incredible rhythm! Extremely impressive.
This guys is absolutely incredible!
Thanks for inspiring me to have a crack at this song13 years ago with your first version. Couldn't match you then - certainly can't match you now! I wish you lots of success with STARBIRD, but for me it's you with just your acoustic guitar that I love. Fantastic work!
