Supermodel Says She ‘Felt Invisible’ When She Passed 45

Ойын-сауық

Have you heard the saying “Men age like a fine wine but women age like a glass of milk?” Despite the fact that celebrities like Jane Fonda and Jamie Lee Curtis are redefining what it means to be a “silver fox,” there is still a huge double standard when it comes to women and aging. Many women say when they hit a certain age, they feel invisible, washed up, and unwanted. In an open discussion, Dr. Phil finds out how women feel about the pressure of aging. Supermodel and writer Paulina Porizkova, 57, is famously candid on social media for shutting down those who think her face needs “fixing” or that she should not be posing in a bikini at her age. Porizkova tells Dr. Phil that women need to embrace their wrinkles and their age. Sixty-year-old Tami says she’s so self-conscious about her age she sometimes won’t leave the house. Thirty-three-year-old Fifi says she’s consumed by her fear of aging. And, 54-year-old Terry says between her throat wattle, age spots, wrinkles, and bifocals, it’s impossible to look in the mirror and feel good. Plus, meet mother/daughter duo Elisa and Lily who are the co-founders of Stylelikeu, a website focused on self-acceptance. They are also the brains behind the documentary series “What’s Underneath Project,” where people, like Porizkova, talk about their vulnerabilities while slowly stripping down to their underwear. I'm not going to feel sorry for someone always getting attention for their looks and then hits an age where they become more invisible. Welcome to a club the majority of people and absolutely the huge majority of men are in all their life. It's like feeling sorry for a multimillionaire who after decades all of a sudden is living middle class.

@@gailsargeant4773 I'm assuming the OP is a young man, and sharing his perspective, I get what he's saying. Women go their whole lives getting tons of attention just for being who they are, and she was in an elite class when it came to that. At first, I kinda did feel bad for her, until I read his post, then remembered exactly how invisible I myself have been my entire life. No one ever feels bad for me, yet this woman gets to be on a TV show for feeling the same way I've been feeling my whole life? Do you see how someone can feel frustrated by that? She's had decades of enjoyment having the opposite experience, which is a lot more than the average young man gets to have. The ride simply ended for her, but she had her time on it. Most of us never even get a turn.

I think that it's unfair of men to go around declaring that women only have worth when they are in their 20s. And only then if they are good looking. But most men don't age well either, for the record! I suppose some are so bitter and twisted that they want ALL women to feel worthless... and just as miserable as they are... even those who have done nothing to deserve it. I have several close friends who have been nothing but faithful, loyal and supportive of their husbands, serving them their whole lives, only to be traded in for younger, more exciting models... so it works both ways.

@@ContessaTessa I mean, duh. We all know that. The men you're referring to are exceptions. The OP is talking about the COMMON male experience, I.E. The MAJORITY of males. Most people (men and women) are average at best, yet an average looking women can walk out of a bar with a decent looking guy 9/10 times. A good looking guy MIGHT leave with a decent looking woman if he works for it. Big difference. You ever watch Alexander Grace's experiment where a woman made a male dating profile on Tinder? She used pictures of a decent looking guy, and gave him an interesting, well paying career, and she did not do well online, and was quite surprised by the experience she was having. There's also quite a few cases of women who transition into becoming men, and complain of suffering from severe loneliness after they transition into being male, claiming that the attention they got when they were women was free flowing, where as being a man felt like people wanted to be further away. That's the common male experience.

There were lots of young back then who never got attention at all even in their youth? This is the culture. Guys with their money and ladies with their so called "beauty". What you probably missing out is you just didn't know aging. Accept your age with grace. Be an old woman. That's all. No mercy for a woman when they age No mercy for men when they are Broke.
