"But if Bendis’ first six issues at DC Comics, the miniseries Man of Steel, have shown anything, it’s that Superman was the obvious choice. The Marvel Comics titan has a genuine and obvious affection for Superman that’s every bit as strong as his connection to Peter Parker or Luke Cage, and it shows in the way that he writes him." polygon.com/comics/2018/7/13/17568974/brian-michael-bendis-superman-man-of-steel-review "Bendis establishes that his distinctive voice is indeed a proper fit for the Superman franchise. Any concerns about Bendis' wordy dialogue overwhelming the series or clashing with Superman's world prove unfounded here. Bendis actually seems to have a pretty firm handle on the character at this early stage." ign.com/articles/2018/05/30/the-future-looks-bright-for-dcs-superman-comics-man-of-steel-1-review Just awful...

We all knew this was gonna happen, as soon as it was announced Bendis would be writing Superman. Everyone loved Jon and the new direction that was taken with Clark now being a family man. DC never had a good thing going that they couldn't help but ruin. It's like they think if there's no controversy happening with fans, it means that fans are bored with what's going on.

Ok. So...just curious about something. I thought this was odd when I read it, so I guess I want a second opinion on it. Superman uses his telescopic vision and sees an approaching Dominator invasion, light years away. He flies there, stops them, and flies back. So... according to Bendis, even though Superman left the solar system to deal with the threat, and then returned, he basically flew out of and then back into the Phantom Zone when leaving and returning to Earth...but didn't realize it?!?

Horacio Poggi that's probably how Bendis will play it off. But from my understanding, once the device that's used to send someone to the Phantom Zone is activated, the process is immediate. So unless someone used the device again, on the entire Earth when he came back, without Superman noticing, it's still highly implausible.

Okay, I'm going to rebut a number of things here... 1) Showing Superman deal with many threats relatively easily shows that the threats he has trouble with (like Rogol Zaar or Brainiac) are powerful enough to be tough to defeat. 2) Without having read the "Mr. Oz" storyline in Action Comics, you lack understanding of the tension between Superman and his Father. 3) The "Superman Suit" that Superman gave to Lois during the Man of Steel storyline was the Kryptonian Armor that he received during the Post-Flashpoint Action Comics origin storyline. Thus, his "going back to the trunks" suit. 4) Saying that Superman couldn't stop Rogol Zaar from destroying the bottled city of Kandor or the Fortress, yet could easily detect and stop the various things during the talk with the Martian Manhunter... other than the situation with the "space ape" (not sure who that was supposed to be), those situations would've attracted notice because of the number of people panicking in the area. The people of Kandor didn't have time to panic. The robots of the Fortress didn't have enough time to send a signal to Superman. 5) It was clear that he was just "hearing out" the Martian Manhunter because they are long-time co-workers. It was also very obvious that he didn't agree with him. It was also obviously a link to the stuff that Jor-El had talked to him about during both the Man of Steel mini-series and the "Mr. Oz" storyline. I think you're nit-picking for problems without having full knowledge of the current story of Superman... which Bendis showed that he has.

Phenomenal example of how not to write superman. Can we have Jurgens and Tomasi back please? In my ongoing quest to recommend good Superman comics to everyone, try out the Exile storyline, where he takes the initiative to execute three kryptonians, (Like he should've done to this Rogul Zaar guy) And begins to lose his grip on his powers so he leaves the earth and goes on an odyssey across space. It's complex and tragic and well written Jurgens Ordway and Stern knock it out of the park

This one was definitely better than the final issue of The Man of Steel, but it still had problems. I feel like Bendis has great ideas, but because he's lost his groove he should just pass them off to other writers. The earth being sucked into the Phantom Zone is a cool idea, and would probably be an exciting story if someone other than Bendis (say, JURGENS?) was writing it. I also like the new Fortress. It's in a good location, Reis designed practically everything, and it looks more forboding. The biggest thing to me about this issues, and possibly Bendis' run so far is the lack of consistency with Superman's character. Lois in TMoS #6 says Superman (who has defeated much tougher enemies than Jor-El ever has) can't stop Jon from leaving, yet during Superman #1 he's shown defeating all kinds of major threats. I actually really like Superman zipping away to stop these problems while talking to the Manhunter, something I think hits into the right ball park. But then he disregards Manhunter's idea of taking over, tells him he loves him several times and compliments his looks, then rushes away and has his "well-written dialogue" on the last page. There are glimmers of authenticity with his Superman, but most of Bendis' writing just leaves him feeling like a Man of Steel from another Earth. Maybe we'll get lucky and he is.

Bendis had Thanos, with cosmic cube, was stopped in three panels by war machine, she-hulk, captain marvel and puck. He had Jigswaw broke spider-man's arm with his hands. He has a celestial defeated in two pages by a random assortment of characters, and a thanos/brood/annihilus invasion is repelled in less than one episode of guardians of the galaxy (and cosmic thanos with cosmic cube and scorpio key was defeated by movie avengers and guardians of the galaxy): basically, he doesn't know what a power level is.

the biggest issue with this comic is that I have is that they destroyed the fortress, then showed how easy it is to rebuild in like ten seconds, also you can't build it in the bermuda triangle because that is where xebel is, so this just shows how little research Bendis does, also what happened to Krypto

I think what pisses me off is how Bendis Bendised Jon. He loved school because it meant he was fitting in. He was all of the goodness of Superman combined with the sharp, inquisitiveness of Lois. Now it's just another character that makes me wonder why the Bendis DC Bendis hired Brian Michael Bendis. I suspect they did it out of a position of Bendis.

Someone explain to me how the daily planet is not a broadcast channel now, with Lois Lane as one of the lead reporters? Clark is a field reporter? Lois Lane is too hot not to put on camera? Or maybe Lois Lane is comparatively homely, which I’m chill with, or she is a field reporter too, and they are competitive like in the old days?

He has destory everything rebirth has done for Superman. They built up the family so much and made them all part of Superman to get them taken away is awful. Im happy they are gone because if Bendis had to write them for more than one page then the characters would be destroyed. Am i the only one that wants to know where Jor-el has been? Superman done alot in Action Comics to find out if it was really Jor-el and when he appears again he just doesnt give a fuck, like it all didnt happen.

BENDIS IS. Fear not the anti-life equation, the end of the DC Universe is nigh. Bendis has arrived and it is terrible.

So... The red trunks are back? I thought the "no underwear over pants" rule was what defined the Superman for gen Z, but apparently the trunks are back. Well, I'm a traditionalist and I approve of it.
