    I have a personal goal to fly as many remaining A380s as I can. I've already flown Singapore's four times and will add airline no.2 this December, flying Asiana's A380 from Seoul to Tokyo. Can't wait, its been 8 years since my last A380 flight. I would really love the opportunity to fly Qatar's A380 before they are gone.

    while it doesn’t have the highest RPKs today, the type is a great way to increase capacity quickly (albeit not cheaply). i do agree that it’s the best option today to help airlines become profitable and manage revenue better. thank you simple flying for making a “year in review” video for the type - you’re certainly helping all the stakeholders see that there’s a real aftermarket potential for the type!

    Thai will re-evaluate their A380 situation soon too, I have heard. I have just done the DXB/AKL leg on an Emirates A380. People that criticise the aircraft itself, have probably never been on one. Quiet, comfortable, spacious and feels solid. Especially when compared to the B787. My only criticism of the A380 is because of the sheer number of passengers, on and off-boarding can be time consuming if the ground staff do not employ a full contingent of air-bridges. eg; I have been in Milan, where the used one air-bridge to off-load the top deck, then moved it down for the bottom deck. (Staff shortages were blamed) But i have also experienced it in Australia too.

    I would say this return is much better than I expected. I’m particularly interested in Global Airlines. And I think Emirates will become my staple airline. If I fly to a place where the A380 is not present, I will choose Air France to discover their new A350s, as judging from its huge global backlog ( more than 1100 airframes ordered) this airliner will be the new king of the skies for many decades.

    I actually saw the opposite on my recent ANA flight from Narita to Chicago. Based on my original booking, it was going to be on an A380, but at some point they swapped to a 777-300ER. The craziest part is that I got an upgrade out of it from Premium Economy to Business class, presumably because the 777 has far fewer Premium Economy seats.

    I’ve flown A330s, 77W, hundreds of narrow-body aircraft, but never the A380 despite having traveled to more than 30 countries. My country’s flag carrier operates mainly new and more efficient planes like the A350 or pretty young A330’s + a bunch of NEOs. However, in one of my spotting days at Madrid I was lucky enough to see the Emirates A380 take-off on it’s regular flight to DXB. It’s been 4 years since then, and I still remember that moment as one of the best in my life…It’s engraved in my mind. The sound, the huge size being a few hundred feet away from it and also, due to it’s size, the apparently slow speed it carries the first minute from airborne. Truly a non-forgetting experience❤.

    @olaflieser38129 ай бұрын

    The A380 is a marvel! Passengers do love it - that has got to count for something if air transport is a business that wants to attract passengers! Those planes will fly longer than many people think - even once today's primary carriers have phased it out. Used planes in good shape will find takers - especially if the price is right. The wing spar issue is an important, non-negligable problem but will be solved and then the aircraft will be in even better shape! One weak point of the A380 is the fuel economics, as it compares to today's top-notch players such as the newest flavours of the A350 and B787 and B777. Specifically the current A380 engines. They are not state of the art anymore. If they could be replaced by state of the art engines of similar power capabilities that would be a game changer. It is estimated that this alone could drop the fuel consumption by a double-digit percentage figure. This would require some re-certification including flight testing - a somewhat expensive obstacle to any such plans. Still, I am speculating (or do wishful thinking here) there is a slight possibility that this will happen - if there is enough demand for it. But no concrete plans yet and we cannot know.

    The most wonderful flying experience no matter what class. I’ve flown over 70 flights with SIA on their A380s, it is so quiet. The short take off is amazing. And first to give the lower altitude experience, now followed by the Dreamliner and A350! Long live the A380 and let us hope that in future a new version makes sense. As has happened too often, it will be interesting to see if the shortsightedness before that led to the end of production will lead to a desperate scramble to meet demand - when they find they can't restart production, or at least not in any time-frame to meet that demand. One thing is sure: the executives responsible will still get bonuses either way.

Unless you have the private cabin as on some carriers. That said, on some carriers it's a waste as their product is pathetic and outdated, so not making the best use of the aircraft. I’m glad to be honest. There is something far more “magical” about the A380. I know it’s kind of juvenile for me to feel this way but I found the shift in preference towards planes like the 777 a bit boring. I travel for work 3-4 times a year and I do get a bit excited when I’m on a long haul flight on the A380. I’ve even done a few flights on the 747 (Air China) and, while clearly a bit long in the tooth now, I do love that plane.

    Actually what killed of the super jumbos is actual regulations for twin engine aircraft changing. Previously twin engine aircraft had to be within (I think) 3 hours of an airport just encase. However because jet engines are more reliable this regulation has been changed. So now twin engine aircraft are allowed to fly the same routes that quad's always have. Twin engine aircraft have always been more efficent but if you go over an ocean previously you had to use a quad.

    @@matthewbaynham6286 The Airbus A380's struggles stemmed from market shifts, airline preferences for versatility, and economic factors. Introduced in the late 1980s, extended twin-engine operations (ETOPS) regulations were not a contributing factor to its failure. The A380's challenges were more related to changing market dynamics, airlines' preferences for smaller, more versatile aircraft, and the overall economic environment.

    Within the next 10 to 12 years....they will virtually be gone from the skies. The final one was built in Dec 2021 and the bulk of the airframes (mostly with Emirates) are already over 8 to 10 years old. You will start to see Emirates retire many of the older airframes out of inventory when the Boeing 777X comes in. Emirates has 115 on order with options on an additional 40 or 50.

    The A380 is the current solution for large airlines. Rather than waiting for an airplane that is not clear when it will fly with passengers. It is better to have many seats for passengers than to lose passengers flying on other airlines.
