There's something that wasn't taken into account, and that is leaving me with this nagging question. Is an army of superheavies actually viable for playing? I mean for 2000ish points: 4 tanks have 120 wounds at T9 with a 2+ save, helped out by all the free wargear, along with each tank having at least 6 HB/HF and 2 LC for supplemental shooting, plus regiment traits for obsec/extra gun range/auto wound on 6s/etc, and include at least one tank ace trait for orders. I think that would be a pretty effective list for only taking four models.
Reviewing the Stormlord - battlebus, reminds me of the Red Vs Blue quote: "I knew you could pick up chicks in a tank"

I think, what you have overlooked is changes in AoO: Superheavy now gets doctrines. So, you pick born soldiers and then FOR 1CP buff your big tank to autowound on 5+. This means, that sponson heavy bolters will autowound 66% of the time. This skyrockets big tanks damage output. At average, if shoot main weapon on dreadnoght and sponsons on marines, you will kill about 450 points, which is almost big tanks cost.

I really want to take the Stormblade because I like plasma stuff, but they haven't updated the profile to include turret weapon, or to buff the amount of shots it gets (should be 2D6+6 shots).

No Stormblade? I know it's a forgeworld model, and it's in the Imperial Armour books, but worth a look at. Also, it's in your thumbnail for this video clip.
This video actually convinced me I like the shadowsword. If I ever buy one of these big ol tanks I'd probably build stormlord or a shadowsword.

Just bought one, and will be building and taking the Shadowsword to a tournament soon!
Y’know, while I will always love baneblades and their variants, I think it’s worth talking about other “lords of war” slot choices, even if they’re not as good, just to see how they interact with modern guard and how to apply them in the 9 1/2 Ed guard force
Stormhammer all the way. The tank with all the guns !
"I can pack my whole army in this!" "Ok." *Delete* "Fuck."
I feel like the Storm Sword is specifically for clearing power armored units out of cover, I think it’ll probably be useful against marines and equivalent forces.
I think your conclusions about the stormsword suits the lore really well. The steel legion(or the gryphonne forge world, maybe)lacked volcano cannons for damaged shadowswords and were like: giant cannon 🤷
@tomgeytenbeek2207

Always works 🤷♂️
The Shadowsord got done dirty. It used to be 3d3. They should have kept that many shots or switched to 1d6+3 to keep it's firepower consistent.
Iv got a friend thats been going back and forth on a tallarn army the last few years. I keep trying to talk him into a Stormlord. The ability to Hose down the center objective, Roll up and Spew out 40 obsec bodies or some mix of Guard and Ogryn is just invaluable. Pair that up with some Russ or Dorn's that can take over the normal anti-armor duties And its a very solid choice in an armored/mechanized company.

What about the Stormblade. For me its always been about the plasma blast gun i love imperial guard plasma
Who would benefit the most of sitting on a firing deck blasting away - which unit of muscleheaded goons only have a 5+ save... Ahhh - OGRYNS!! Aggressive Doomhammering for the win. A 6 man Ogryn unit (taking up 18 out of 25 seats) can sit in there quite happily blasting away ignoring any incoming fire. What would have been good is if they added the Mobile Command vehicle benefit to the transport 'Hammers so you could keep a command squad in the remaining seats safe and happy. Why would a gigantic super heavy not have the same radio set up as a tiddly Chimera?

@@StevenZagaris Hell yes brother 💪🏻. If you're going to go big you may as well go REALLY BIG
I play Blood Angels but i love this channel to keep up on date with the Imperial cannonfodder
My main rule is ignore damage 2 weapons on big guns, but that might just because I keep getting burned on my melee characters and plasma guns.
The fixed gun vehicles feel like self propelled guns to me.
I've always been partial to the plasma blast gun of the ....... Shadowsword I think, been a while and the editions have changed since I was playing back in 2004 and it was a forgeworld model for special interests but I'm a plasma spammer all the way.
Completely agree on shadowsword. That volcano cannon 1 shotted a knight every turn in an Apocalypse game i had recently. It is a beast in that regard 😁
Two points about all these Super heavies. 1) Not one can come in as reserve unless you wish to sit still for a whole turn not shooting or doing anything. With their sponsons they are 7 inches wide! 2) Good luck moving any of them on the terrain rich boards that are used these days. That mean if you do fill one with transport capacity it won't be able to move the troops up table. So just sit back and screen off a 25-inch section of your table edge from deep strikers. Make sure you take guns with 48 inches of range. 36 might be enough.
The only song you should sing when wielding a typical guard super heavy: Picking up speed, running out of time, Going head to head, it's a way of life. You gotta fall down, meet ground, to get back up again. Let's Baneblade...
Considering how expensive they are, the take all comers ones are the go to for me! The big gun needs to be able to take on elite infantry or tanks. The Baneblade is iconic and will always have a place in my heart. The Banesword is the best at the moment since it’s so cheap. The Stormsword would be more interesting but you get a similar output from duct taping two cheaper (and have more synergies in the book) Leman Russ Demolishers together. All the others are too specialised and the transport ones pay for a capacity you might not be using. Give me a Baneblade any day of the week!
Interesting that your looking at them independently! What of multiple super heavies together?
Will you be doing a video for the Forge World super heavy options?
So you're saying the Stormlord is... a Beigeblade?
The shadow sword made more sense when the board size was bigger, and even more sense when playing the apocalypse game mode. Now it is just too long range a weapon without enough shots to justify it on the smaller infantry and melee focussed tables today. The Hellhammer and Stormsword with the extra sponsons are probably the super heavies worth taking now unless you want an excuse to yell BANEBLADE! Your comments on the Stormlord does make it more tempting - the biggest downside is its size makes it hard to move around the board which always puts me off for a transport.
Now I am considering replacing 4 chimeras in my planned mechanized infantry list with a storm lord.
The classic bb is the best cheap with good amount of guns
I'm still irritated about the Shadowsword not being able to ignore invulnerable saves.
I have a stormblade and another superheavy destroyer I don't know which to build yet...
Not gonna lie, the Banesword is looking very tasty right now. Also, I wouldn't cry about the Volcano Cannon not having invulnerability breaks, or the Baneblade having a weaker cannon than the Dorn... BECAUSE WE HAVE THE RUSS VANQUISHER! >:)
Stormhammer. Nothing says love like quad battle cannons, and up to eight las cannons. And a stubber.
My baneblade in a supremely glorious moment killed half a squad of sanguinary guard with power fists in overwatch then crushed the rest of them under track. Very very satisfying.
I’m pretty sold on the Stormlord for my Steel Legion squads. I just hope the Chimeras don’t feel jealous
love your content mr glory we are the imperial guard, its time we start acting like it
BB with Pound Them To Dust is a good way to get around the swing. 10 marines can cop max shots.
What about the storm hammer?
The banesword would be the coolest one if it wasn´t because of the fact that the turret looks like it cannot turn ! It looks fixed ! hahah that makes no sense! I can not unsee it now.
@MordianGlory would you say the Stormswordmight be a... Beigeblade?

I'm considering that, but it could potentially explode for up to 2D6 + D6 MW meaning you don't want it surrounded by a lot of your stuff. Still, having a baby Shadowsword titan killer melta weapon littered with dual flamer sponsons and infantry firing down off the back deck is something your opponent just can't ignore.
The most major issue of the mandatory sponsons is now you can't put it in SR without being wider than 6in. SUper sad to discover this
