    Looked like the bloke on the bike wasn't even trying. They did something similar in the UK. A British touring car against a British superbike . The bike destroyed the car. Saying that , the race cars over here are kicking out about 350 bhp but probably way half as much as that ozzie touring car . Also the track was more balanced for both car and bike . That track they were on looked more 4 wheel friendly than 2 wheel.

    Given car and bike relative strengths (corners/straights etc.), it would be interesting to see which tracks go closest to neutralising these differences and which tracks are more favourable to either vehicle. I also wonder how lap 2 would have gone here - probably a little more towards the car with no zero start advantage for the bike. Cheers and thanks for sharing - Dave

    This track seems quite a good equalizer. On a twisty track with short straights like this one a car will likely have a better laptime due to being able to achieve higher corner speeds, but on a track with less turns and longer straights, a bike will will have a much bigger advantage and can use its acceleration to more effect. Modern superbikes are as quick as an F1 car up to a certain speed and max out at around 210mph.

    All the car vs bike videos on youtube are staged and biased because they are promoting the cars. Bikes actually corner faster than they say on car shows. Bikes take a different line which allows for greater acceleration on the exit but a slightly slower mid corner speed. Look up the lap records for this track and the super bike is 1.5 seconds faster than the super car and it is a very short track. The lap records for Laguna Seca show that bikes are a lot faster than production cars. On big tracks the gap would be larger. Also this video compared super cars to super bikes. Moto GP bikes are much faster than Super Bikes and the riders are more talented.

    @@jonathanm7948 all those tracks mentioned majority have more straights than turns. bikes make up SOOO much time in straights. to make it a fair comparison you'd need to look at sector records and corner speeda

  • @jonathanm7948

    @jonathanm7948

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@jerseyboycustoms yes, supercars have a slightly higher apex speed (than super bikes but not motogp bikes) because bikes slow down a little so they can power slide at the apex and get full acceleration before the end of the turn. But it is only a very small amount slower like 0.5km/h slower but at the exit of corners bikes are up to 50km/h faster. Bikes begin accelerating hard at the apex whereas cars begin accelerating hard at the exit. That means cars are only a few km/h faster just before the apex for like half a second. On big turns bikes and cars have similar entry speeds. On tight corners bikes drift into the entry of the turn like a rally car meaning they have slower km/h but the drift results in a faster corner. For street legal cars and bikes the bikes are 10 seconds faster than the best sports cars around small tracks with less straights. I don't know what car u drive but whatever it is it is very slow compared to supercars but a street legal sports bike accelerates faster than a supercar and corners faster than any street legal car because bikes have 200 horsepower and weigh 200 kilograms whereas cars have 200 - 300 horsepower but weigh 1500 - 2000 kilograms. Car shows that say cars are faster than bikes are biased because they written to sell cars. Eg. One show said cars stop faster than bikes and used a car with electronics to automatically downshift and stop efficiently and for the bike they made him hit the front brakes in 4th gear without downshifting. Also, they say cars are faster because of apex speed without showing the harder acceleration of bikes immediately after the apex before reaching the end of the turn.

    @@larjkok1184 He didn't make a huge mistake on his lap, and by the end of lap one he lost all of his adventage that he had in corner 1 lap 1. By design a bike accelerates better and is faster on the straights but much slower in the corners. Maybe an oval track would be a fair fight, but a regular track with several corners will always favor the car. A bike simply cannot have the cornering speed of a car (talking about same level vehicles of course). It's without a doubt that cornering with a bike is way more fun, but talking strictly about the efficiency, cars win. For example, lap records from Circuit de Catalunya*: MotoGP 1:45.969 Formula Renault 2.0 1:43.555 LeMans GTE 1:45.529 Formula Renault is a development league for drivers before F3 or F2. LeMans GTE is a touring car championship. While MotoGP is the absolute pinnacle of motorcycle racing. And MotoGP times are in the league of them, not the absolute best of race cars. *Note: the previous Grand Prix layout that used to host F1 races between 2007-2020 and hosted two MotoGP races in 2016-2017, the current official records are different as neither uses that layout anymore.

    Great display of the differences between cars and bikes. What I surprised is how quick the 600bhp odd V8 can muster along the straight, the bike wasn't that much quicker although has the punch out the corner, simple weight that. Good video Supercars :-)

    May be staged for this but in reality their fastest times over the weekend are only separated by around 3 tenths in favour of the Supercar.

    True. A rolling start would have provided a more accurate comparison.

    I suggest you ask for an opportunity to drive a V8 Supercar then. You'd be surprised just how difficult race cars are to drive. I've raced cars (professional) and bikes (amateur) in the UK. Although there's more skill involved in racing a bike, the cars are harder to drive consistently over a full race.

    Steve Wood I used to race cars myself in my younger day, and later on in my life bikes. Its a generalisation, but its very true cars are easy to drive compared to bikes. Skill in racing a bike is at least 90% rider 10% machine, in a car the opposite. You talk about consistency -are you trying to tell me its easier to consistently lap on a bike than a car in a racing environment ??? Your entitled to your opinion, but anyone in the racing world knows bikes are harder in EVERY aspect particularly consistent lap times,so totally disagree Have great day 😉

    Hate to tell you Jeff, but you can't compare bike vs car, it all comes down to the track and the vehicle. Look at the Mugello times for F1 vs Moto GP (both are the most extreme examples of race vehicle), 1:18.8 for F1 and 1:46.8 for Moto GP. Just like Hidden Valley last weekend, the fastest lap for a Supercar was a 1.14.9 and for the bike was a 1:15.2. But hey, anyone can ride a bike too. Just like driving, all it takes is training and practice.

    And Rew Anyone can ride a bike in a straight line. Racing is a totally different proposition but you wouldn’t know because you have never competed. Anyone can drive a car on the road and competitively as it requires far less skill. If you read my message thoroughly you would understand that i raced both You seem fixated on lap times, it has nothing to do with it. Motogp bikes are slower in lap time, but probably 5 times the skill in riding them compared to any form of car whether its touring car or F1
