Don't think it's capable. Digitakt only has 64MB of RAM. And I don't think the architecture could handle streaming in files and playing multi-tracks simultaneously. As it stands though, there is nothing else like this on the market so I'm not complaining. This is why I invested in getting 4 Elektron machines, I knew Overbridge would make using their gear better than pretty much anything else out there

Dan James the AH crashes me all the time. I’ve been using it since it came out.. been on Beta 2.0 for a long time which is way better but I wonder if this will be more stable and not lock up my AH and session

Gerald Good III I’ve been using it at least 6 months and it’s never crashed a project, it’s dropped connection but only a couple times and I’m using 4 overbridge devices. not analog heat though

The biggest thing is you can keep your sound card going. Game changer for me.

Just got pushed over the edge with this vid to get a Digitakt. Overbridge seems like such a good workflow to transfer sequences in the DAW.

OMG ! THIS is magic ! Now ill emidially connect my takt and tone - , cause it just made the whole ordeal 5 times faster to use ! Elektron is lightyears ahead,-

Not really. USB and VST was invented long time ago. Good thing it finally happened for Elektron ( and Roland plugout ). Any other to mention?

Cenk really gives me the best digitakt ideas.

I’ve been considering getting a Digitakt as I don’t have a hardware sampler yet. Overbridge definitely makes it even more appealing.

Very nerdy. I like it.

Hopefully they address sample management with the Digitakt. Currently it’s still difficult to see which samples are not being used in a project.

May I ask what interest there is to see which samples in the machine aint used in a specific project? Maybe the only way to purge unused samples for the whole machine, is to backup all projects with each projects samples located within the project folder, then wipe the machine, install only the sample-packs needed and put back the projects.

That is possible now anyway. You just hit the right arrow in the project sample view and there's an option to select unused samples.

Overbridge works a treat

Never mind Overbridge. Cenk's got a 1530 Datassette and what might look like some games on tape in the background. Where is the Commodore 64?

Happy to see this working a lot better with Logic now. Only thing is the sync transport not working properly or just not the way I expect it to do. Dragging samples is a must to have. And zooming the sample window. And a different file- och project management system : )

Regarding stream send FX per track ..Cenk is saying you use audio settings on your box to disconnect audio routing to mains so that mains only send FX and no audio. So how do you then configure capture to end up with wavs of each audio track with FX applied to each track separately? Seems to me you still need to solo record each track per pattern no?

Are the issues with logic pro x now sorted out? With the beta i was not able to address (record) the 4 individual analog keys tracks into logic.

What unholy magic gives you the power to be this awesome..? Great stuff!

If I understand it correctly, you don’t need to set the Analog Heat as your audio interface, to use it in your daw? That’s huge if that’s the case. Is that only on Mac or Windows too?

Does Overbridge 2 support the C64 datasette over USB?

I was wondering too.Perhaps you can control the SID chip from it too? Or is that slated for Overbridge 3, you think?

What about midi? I was looking forward to making a scratch on my Digitakt, then transferring it to a DAW via midi and then replacing the sounds with hi birate audio. Is that possible?

Midi works flawlesslyt. On my Digitakt I can have the midi tracks sequence soft synths in the computer. What is still missing for me is seamless sample transfer via OB (PC to DT). And somehow the GUI doesn't allow auditioning sounds on the +drive. You can only audition what is already in the sound pool. So while it let you search and tag sounds from the computer or scroll through the entire sound collection on the DT, you can't actually hear the sounds which does make deciding what sound I'd like to have in the project's sound pool a pain in the neck..

9:37 NO it does the same thing for my units too! I wish for that to be fixed as soon as possible as well as having multiple instances of AH on each track within the DAW

WTF, analog heat as a plugin. That's crazy mad.

I really hope it works properly this time. I really wish Elektron would give their products a proper OLED colour screen and arrange the knobs around the screen or below in 2 rows. Maybe even LED rings for the knob position and a clickable signal path. Look to hydrasynth for inspiration. I still wish there would be a proper big synth / drum machine with mostly dedicated knobs.

I always wondered .. So digital audio goes to analog heat.. then thru D/A.. Processed.. then thru a A/D then back out thru plugin. I know with high end converters u can hear that “analog” sound But what would an analog heat sound like as a pure plugin? If it was coded by someone like Fabrice Gabriel from slate (IMO the king of analog modeling.. yes UAD is amazing and the Relab ppl). Would we hear the difference?

When you say “it doesn’t take over sound card, everything is handled by the plugin” does that mean it works differently than b4/ not as an aggregate device? Does it have these same features with Logic X as opposed to Ableton?

I cannot say on Logic, but on Ableton you don't need the aggregate device. Basically you run overbridge on the system and on the daw you use whatever audio interface you want to use, and the plugin handles the audio and midi to the elektron devices. They made it totally transparent, it behaves like a software plugin

What Ableton Theme is Cenk using?

How can i set my scarlett audio interface as my sound output? I want to controll my monitors via my soundcard. If i do that now the sound gets glitchy but when i have the sound gets direct out of the built on output its fine but then i miss the benefits of my sound card. Any sulution for this?

Overbridge seems to mostly be a way to make up for missing features in the firmware, like supporting standard USB interfaces for audio and storage. If the devices supported those standards, they would "just work" with every host device made from 2000 until like... whenever USB dies. Overbridge could still exist, but it wouldn't need nearly as many features... just some stuff to provide librarian functions and work around some bugs in Windows. Maybe a thin layer to improve VST / DAW integration. It wouldn't actually be necessary though, just kind of nice to have. Instead, functions which would normally be built in to the hardware are tied to a proprietary app which only runs on a couple OSes and may or may not be maintained over time. If I understand correctly, the reason for doing it this way was so those features could be an extra add-on purchase. Overbridge was to be a paid app, and to make that work in a business sense, there needed to be a compelling reason for people to buy it. But the community balked at that idea, so Elektron made Overbridge free instead (and I seem to recall the hardware prices went up too, shortly afterward). That was probably a good call. The unfortunate part is that, instead of adding the missing features in firmware, Elektron still went forward with the plan to make them exclusive to Overbridge... even though there was no longer any commercial reason to do it that way. So those devices end up with reduced compatibility.

Does Bettermaker do this sort of thing too?

ableton displays the latency for plugins in the bottom left which I'm sure Cenk knows! Shows 48ms latency when using heat as a plugin in the video! This was the problem with v1 also, latency much too long for tracking or playing live.

It's 10 years old and not able to handle OB. Octatrack is impressive for the time it was realized but it cannot support class-compliant USB audio. I imagine they'll be releasing a successor that does handle it next. It's the thing most due for an upgrade in the lineup. It might not be EXACTLY like the OT currently out there, they may strip it down and make the interface more streamlined. But yeah, would be cool to have OB on it.

@@LukezyM I believe it's because the OT hardware is much older than their other devices (the MKII is the same internally as the original) and the CPU and RAM are pretty much maxed out as they are.

All anyone ever wanted from Overbridge for the Digitakt is multitrack recording, proper sample management and backup. All the other stuff is a total waste of time, and we STILL don’t have the basic features we need.

thing i dislike is when i a have made a jam with Digitakt with some synth and no pc connected, when i want to record all of it together in Ableton my midi is out of time with my daw audio. anyone got a workaround? i usually have to record the digitakt midi out of overbridge. i

I got 1 problem hope that someone out there can help me. In order to get my Digitone to have a good sound without glitches I need to get the audio direct from my computer speakers wich means I don't use my sound card then. So how can I get this work with still using my sound card?

Maybe check the sample rates match between OB and the soundcard. Also check the latency settings. If they are too short it may be you need to make them a bit larger

This is why Elektron is king of hardware-software integration. Between this and their world-class sequencers, what the hell are the other companies doing? DSI/Sequential, Moog etc...you other companies need to get your shit together and make your sequencing/software interfacing more powerful. Stuck in the 90's still with only being able to automate with MIDI CC's and other archaic bullshit. Parameter locks? Trig conditions? How are these not industry standard by now? Elektron just gets it, they know how to make hardware DAWless jamming powerful, and now they even rule the DAW integration too

Love overbridge would love the ability to transfer samples to the digitakt via the vst.

I tried the new version. Worked ok for about 20 mins then started getting odd behaviour. It would loose sync with the hardware. I’d make changes in the vst and nothin would happen. Same o’l overbridge nonsense. This is why I never used it before. It’s just too buggy and unreliable.

Octatrack uses an older usb 2.0 chipset and was not integrated with the audio engine in anyway. none of the hardware used for OB was used when designing the OT. the mkii model's DSP board is identical to the mki model from 2010. It's physically impossible to have overbridge on the octatrack without redesigning and recoding the entire hardware which would make it essentially a different device. The DSP chipset used in the OT doesn't have any modern equivalent either so there's no upgrade path without moving to a new code base and new chip architecture that would again mean a different device all together. It's just not gonna happen. There may be an OT inspired device in the future but I don't think that's likely either.

I got into Elektron gear to avoid computers and have had no interest in overbridge at all. The editor/librarian features are all I care about, I hope they pay attention to QoL things in that vein.

I like both worlds. The device itself is nice to use standalone, but If you also use daws and want to record multitrack, is really convinient
