Super Ténéré Fork Rebuild Tutorial

I finally got around to rebuilding the front suspension for my adv bike. It was definitely overdue, and I wanted to get it taken care of before putting some serious miles on the bike.
Note: this was for a 2013 model year, and I think I was using a 2010 manual (2010-2013 are basically the same bike). The process may vary a bit for different years, but the general steps should be the same. Definitely reference a manual for exact steps and torque specs.
Overall it was a pretty fun rebuild and wasn't too hard. There were a couple special tools that came in super handy. None of these are affiliate links, just things I found useful.

Thank for taking the time to put this together. Between yours and Tom's Tinkering's video, I'm convinced I can do this job myself. Also, thanks for the links to the required kit in the description.

Thanks for the detailed video! To get the front wheel off the ground on bikes with a center stand, I often just set up some concrete blocks near the rear wheel and strap the rear of the bike down to them.

Nice. So you're saying, the real mvp of this project is the center stand lol 🤣 For real though, having a center stand is totally worth it. It opens up so many options.

Nice work, I switched to SKF seals, they last much longer than others, while the slider was off I slipped a o-ring so I can easily check sag. Have Fun!

My 2013 Super Tenere had leaking forks due to corroded chrome on the fork legs. Probably from stone damage. Rebuilt them with new fork tubes. Worth fitting rubber gaiters over the lower chrome legs.

I liked your datailed video. The only thing I didn't fully understand was how much oil to use when refilling the forks. Any additional details you can offer would be great. Thanks.

The level is a bit variable depending on how much residual oil is in the tubes. The Final level is set by a distance from the top of the tube. I forget how much I used as an initial fill value, but I'd suggest just getting one of the oil level syringes. Then you just over fill it and suck it back down to the level needed.

Maybe 13k ish? Not certain. I'm the second owner and the previous owner put the bulk of the miles on it, so I'm not sure what type of miles those were.

Yeah I'm not sure. It might have just gotten some grit past the dust seal. I may have been able to get it out with a seal saver. But I figured I'd just do the replacement so that I knew what I was working with, and because I had a big trip coming up and didn't wanna risk it.

Way to complicated, just loosen the bottom bolt for just a seal and oil change.
