Technically, Ryu/Ken down through is NOT the only move that can instant shield break. Full-charged focus is actually coded to break shield, then apply the special effect. It's very bizzare, but it is actually a shield break, not a grab. Same with Mac's KO punch.

Yeah ^^ it can deal massive damage to shields and it normally breaks any shield if fully charged. But did you know that a full shield from Shield Manado Shulk wont break to a fully charged Shield Breaker? Kinda neat

It's easier to count the multi-input multi-hit attacks than the single-input: Link's side smash; Marth's, Roy's, Lucina's, and Chrom's side special; Cloud's side special without a full limit meter; Cloud's up special; Shulk's up special; and I think a few more, but I'm not entirely sure.

@@Shadow-mi1kn That Fire Emblem Fates (Corrins' three "choices") is a joke of a game in every term possible, the previous one called Awakening(the one that has three reps in Smash known as Chrom, Robin and Lucina) had the same problems than Fates but 3 times less harmful. But basically those were unfocused plot and that the challenge of the game can be magically and drastically turn off at the start of any save file.

This video is old, so I'm sure no one will see this, but I'm just going to explain shield break mechanics real quick. In every Smash game, the max health for shields has changed. In 64 it was 55%. In Melee it was 60%. In Brawl, Sm4sh, and Ultimate it is 50%. I will be describing just Ultimate here. Shields take 1.19x more damage from any attack, meaning an attack that deals 20% will deal 23.8% to a shield. Note that the 1v1 multiplier (1.2x in a 1v1 match) does not activate on shields, but the freshness bonus (1.05x to any "fresh" attack), the shorthop multiplier (0.85x any aerial used out of a shorthop), and the increased damage from charging a smash attack (max of 1.4x the damage) all do. Certain moves deal increased shield damage. A good example is Ganondorf's up tilt, the Volcano Kick. It has a shield damage increase of 25, meaning you add 25% to the damage of this move when it hits a shield. It deals 24% normally, then you add the 25%, then multiply by 1.19x, for a total of 58.31%. This is why this move always breaks shields.

I first found out about the ryu shield break while playing ice climbers. Popo got grabbed and Nana's shield broke.

I think Jigglypuff should've been the test candidate instead of Mii Brawler. You break the shield, you're rewarded with a KO!

And also Lucas and ness are no joke and pk fire isn’t all they’re good for. It’s just all the spammers that put that reputation on them. That’s why if you’re an ACTUAL ness main (not a spammer) and you say “hey guys I found a zero-to-death for ness” they immediately assume it is “ pk fire pk fire pk fire pkfire pk fire baseball bat” but it’s not that. Yes it consists of 1 and I mean ONLY 1 pk fire, that’s just because it’s a good move to use to start combos. However just because it’s good for combos doesn’t mean it should be spammed. Lucas is MUCH more than pk fire as literally ANYONE who has played as Lucas a significant amount would tell you.
