I was born in 2006. I had a Wii. I got new super Mario bros Wii but never a smash game until I got a 3ds in 2015 and i got smash for the 3ds in 2016. I never got brawl until 2017.

Epilogue in 20 seconds (I don't actually know if it's 20 seconds): The Inklings from the popular new game Splatoon are just living their life until they disappear and end up in some mysterious place. They look and see the Smash bros characters in front of fire shaped as the Smash template. The Smash characters are inviting the inklings into Smash.

I never knew that this was the story. I always thought it was some kind of multiverse and all the characters were taken out of there universe to battle other characters

+Vickey Mecrive Brawl had a huge story mode and it is most of this video. but just based on a few trophys description there are some sort of back story if you read them. it states, that "Smash" is a place where master hand bring fighters from different worlds to fight against each other so that he can fight the victor for himself. you can read that certain characters such as Ness have learned moves from Paula and Poo to help him fight in smash because he uses move that he actually doesn't know in his own game. same for Lucas

never knew smash actually had a backstory/storyline

To me, the entire franchises seems like the product of the imagination of some kid (Master Hand) playing with his dolls (Smashers). Then, his sibling gets into the roleplaying (Crazy Hand). After that, another person (Taboo) wins almost the entire collection of trophies (by betting or something?), but they are won back by adding a random character as a last resort (Sonic) and then the roleplay continues.

Game theory did it better

I'd always imagined that Master Hand is an actual person (look at the intro to Smash 64) where in 64 he's a child, Melee he's a pre-teen, Brawl he's an (edgelord) teenager, and in 4 he's an adult that's trying to recapture his youth. Crazy Hand would be his other hand (since the models are the right and left hands) and Tabu is his conscience (Like a "why are you still playing these games? Grow up"). Nintendo has a history of relating the games they make to the lead director, like how Pokemon's consept was based around how Satoshi Tajiri liked to collect bugs and explore the landscape in his neighborhood (caves, forests, etc).
