It stars and is presented by Tyson Beckford, who also Narrates the Series along, with American fashion legend Bethann Hardison.
Tyson Beckford is a name almost synonymous with the male fashion industry today. But his early upbringing in Rochester and The Bronx in New York City was anything but glamorous.
It was surely American, but it was a far cry from the 'Ralph Lauren American Dream' that Tyson would later come to represent.
More than just breaking a few glass ceilings in his rise, he often had to fight for his very life.
He is noted as the first Jamaican-American male supermodel, also credited with opening the door for other men of colour to enter into the industry.
Tyson was born in The Bronx on the 19th December, 1970, and spent his early years under the snowstorms of Rochester, upstate New York City, . He was born to an Afro-Jamaican mother, Hillary Dixon Hall and a Panamanian father of Afro-Jamaican and Chinese-Jamaican descent, Lloyd Beckford. Even though most people consider him a black man, he is also one full quarter Chinese.
When Tyson was still a small child, soon after he was born, his mother Hilary took the family back to Jamaica, where they lived for seven years connecting a young Tyson to his Jamaican roots, before returning to New York City, before embarking on his stellar career as a Supermodel, actor and producer.
And for the very first time this film examines the issue of Race and Racism in the global fashion industry, and how a handful of courageous pioneers and agents for change have made a major impact on this influential industry. An industry that in many way defines what is considered to be beauty and worthwhile.
From ancient times, through the Renaissance and Middle Ages, through the Golden screen ages of Hollywood, right through to the modern evolution of the Supermodel in history. For global release in 2022.
Artists as far back as ancient times humankind has been fascinated with what was considered 'the ideal' in human form.
We travel in time through history, through the movements of the 60’s, the 70’s, the 80’s and 90’s, right up to the present day. To explore the changing notion of 'the ideal'.

I was so infatuated with Tyson Beckford that I got a job in the men’s Ralph Lauren Polo department in Foley’s (now Macy’s) back in the 90’s! I was able to take a giant poster of him that I kept on my wall for years! I went back to NYC in ‘98 and I actually got to meet him in VIP at Club Life! He was so sweet! I’ll never forget it!

I met Tyson B. back in the late 90's at Southridge Mall in Greendale, WI for a meet and greet at one of the stores there. He was absolutely gorgeous 😍in person but smaller in stature. I can also say he gave me a look I will never forget and the other ladies there made sure to let me know, GIRL, he is checking you out. LOL!!! He signed a photo for me, and I don't think I have it any more. 😢 A moment in time, I will never forget.

....it seemed so NATURAL....and so FUGITIVE at the same time....the worlds of RAP....HIP HOP...and HOUSE music....the evolution of the FITNESS INDUSTRY...to the point that it was a staple of modern living to have a gym membership....everyone went to the gym....MIKE TYSON....MICHAEL JORDAN....were HUGE SUPERSTARS....the female SUPERMODEL PHENOMENON........when the planets most CONSERVATIVE...but VISUALLY CINEMATIC fashion designer ....RALPH LAUREN...decided to release an activewear line...and he was secure enough within himself as a BRAND....to take the CALCULATED RISK......THE BLACK MAN AS ATHLETE....a quiet nod...and staple in MARKETING AND ADVERTISING...however with TYSON....it had such a EDGY....and URBAN FLAVOR...the ULTIMATE in MODERNITY in ADVERTISING...on par with everything CALVIN had EVER DONE in ads....and the next thing you knew....TYSON....was EVERYWHERE.....COMPLETE and TOTAL CULTURAL SATURATION....COMMERCIALS.....MAGAZINES....BILLBOARDS.....MUSIC VIDEOS..... Literally no clients were featuring blk men in editorial or commercials .The Japanese had plenty of work and catwalk always came through with but doesn't pay well .What actually helps is having blk magazines like vibe source XXL essence and ebony because the revenue from advertising is lucrative and others see you your face becokes popular . What the models need is more catalogue more perfumes/ beauty ads and more photographers of colour who will also book for trips. Thanks for sharing your story
