That airship theme will never get old imo

Was I the only one as a kid who would time my jump and try and catch the wand as soon as it came on the screen as high as possible?😂🤣

I actually think the backgrounds for the airships are better here than they are in the remakes. Here it feels like each airship level is taking place at a different time of the day, with the music serving as a good contrast before World 8. Speaking of World 8, the minimal background makes the level seem even more menacing.

Honestly nes mario 3 looks better in general. I love things like Marios black overalls, how he's all bright orange with the fire flower, the airship colors as you said... just tons of neat little details that make a game look cool

I love how the airships in the nes take place during the day, while in the remakes, they take place in a cloudy night sky.

I love Toad's funny little dance whenever you complete an airship. It's just so cute in my opinion!

Actually;, i’d argue lemmy is much easier than wendy. For one, unlike wendy’s rings, which injure you no matter how they touch you, you can safely jump on the top of lemmy’s..... er um..... balls. (That sounds so much worse than it actually is). Second, wendy jumps,’and quite high on her last hit point, making evading her harder, but lemmy stays near the ground on the his ball the whole time, so he’s much easier to hit and avoid if he’a threatening to hit you

Brandowfaicoo they do but not if you hit them from above, meaning they can be safely jumped on. Compare that to Wendy’s rings which injure you if they touch you in any way

I always liked how Bullet Bills appeared early in SMB3. In Mario 1 Bullet Bills didn't come until late in the game, but in Mario 3 you encounter then at the end of the first world. It really set the tone for a big game.

The sunken ghost ship in super mario world is supposed to be one of the airships from super mario bros 3. I've heard many say it was the world 2 airship. Nice piece of connectivity lore between the 2 games.

Why are the Coins and ? Blocks not animated on these ships? Did Nintendo need the extra cartridge space for some other animation (like the four-way cannon)? I was a little surprised you didn't do every ship level in World 8...then I remembered that only one of them is an airship! =P

I noticed that too when I was younger. I think it’s so they can have extra sprites on screen without wasting space on coins and blocks

Just remember that when on any of the Airships, you must watch out for the following things. Rocky Wrenches Bullet Bills Cannonballs Rocket Engines
