💡Tired of the hustle and bustle of big cities, I gave up my high-paying job, bid farewell to the city, returned to my hometown, and walked into the beautiful jungle. I not only built my own dream home in the jungle but also used my knowledge to help my relatives and friends repair all kinds of machines for free in my spare time. I also helped many of my Chinese fans repair machines for free.

Put the piece as close to the chuck as possible, use the tail stop with a live center if you have one and DON'T WEAR GLOVES when operating a lathe. The turning parts can grab the glove and you can lose a finger or a hand faster than you can blink! As always, great job, love the smile, be careful.

Ya and the grinder. Also she turned a OD in a prior vid toward the tailstock. If the clamp comes loose on tailstock to the bed and the force pushes tailstock away from chuck she will be wearing that bar.

personally I’ve turned plenty of parts with gloves on. If your close enough to rotating parts that your gloves can catch your dangerously close to begin with and need to put more space in between. And I tended to use latex gloves so in unlikely event they did catch something they’d just tear.

@@maxpowerii7368 Almost everyone can and does wear thin latex gloves for oil and splinter protection when grinding etc.. . Maybe we didn't watch the same video. She is not wearing those kind of gloves WHILE operating the lathe. You can risk losing your own fingers but I wouldn't train people to wear the gloves while operating a lathe. She is wearing thick cloth gloves while operating the lathe, that's what she is doing. That is extremely dangerous. Your point is not relevant as thin latex gloves are nothing like what she is wearing and even wearing latex gloves isn't a good idea unless always being lucky is your game plan.

Hi Linquoer, if you can afford it buy an air operated needle gun. It will make cleaning rust and old paint off casting much quicker. When tapping new threads by hand reverse the tap wrench about a quarter to half a turn every turn - it breaks the chips up and you will find it easier to do the thread forming.

What caught my attention was that when tapping she just forces forward until she’s done. I was taught in high school shop to do one full turn forward… then a half turn back… then one full turn forward… then a half turn back… repeat until fully tapped. The half turn back clears the cutting edges from clogging. My youngest brother that served six years as a Navy mechanic also does it this way.

Well done Lin - just a couple of points - when removig the chuck from the lathe always put a biece of wood on the bedways to protect them if the chuck whould fall; it looks like the cross slide is rather difficult to wind in and out - you should be able to adjust the jib strip to make the movement smoother and don't for get to keep all the lathe slides well oiled. Very best wishes.

2 things. Please ........ You are scaring me. Safety!! Never use gloves when using the bench grinder. If the wheel catches the glove it will drag your hand into the machine and break your fingers or hand. I have seen a persons finger get ripped right off his hand. Also I saw a video from you and you were using the lathe. Turning the OD Outside diameter of a long piece of steel. One end in the chuck and one end using the tail stock, NEVER turn the OD toward the tail stock. If the clamp comes loose on the tailstock and the tailstock moves backward the piece of steel will come out and end up in you lap. Or do much much worse a injury. Always turn toward the chuck. Love your videos Lin!!!! You are the best.

This girl is an actress hired to pretend to be a mechanic and other skilled trades-person. In reality she can't do any of these things on her own. And if you for one second believe she is doing all this you need some help. She is an actress not accomplished at any skill. At least they should make her look the part. This The girl is an actress. She was hired to do the "ROLE" there is no way she can be an expert electrician/carpenter/is an insult to any skilled trades person. And there are many shorts of Asian women who really do the work. This is not one of them. She is not a mechanic, or an electrician, or anything else.

the trick taught to me was to leave the components on the floor in the order they are removed in a line. that way you just follow the line the opposite way to re-assemble the machinery. Works surprisingly well.

@@Marv12345 in my experience most machinery has fair bit of space around it so pallets of work can be stacked near it or forklifts can access machine. And if anyone messed with my components on the floor I’d go psycho with them followed by paying a visit to their supervisor to tell them to keep said worker well away from me unless they want a non-functioning machine re-assembled. It’s never happened to me so far but that’s what I’d do if it did. I also tend to take lots of pictures on my phone although quick sketches would equally work well.

Great job Lin!!!! PLEASE!! Do NOT wear gloves or loose clothing when using the lathe! It'll grab you and break YOU! Watch on here This Old Tony, Abom79, and Cutting Edge Engineering if you would like some great instructional videos using a lathe and some great tips and tricks. You're missing one part that goes on the right side of the carriage that I can see, and it's a dial that has 1 2 3 4 on it for indicating lead screw position for threading. It should bolt to the hole on the top right edge of the carriage in that empty hole above the three bolts you have, but I could be wrong. Very nice job, you've done well with that old lathe!

I’ve seen her strip and refurb countless bits of machinery. I don’t think she needs advice on how to use a lathe truth be told. I’ve seen countless experienced toolmakers and machinists wear gloves while turning on a lathe and I’ve turned countless parts with gloves on. You shouldn’t be touching or coming anywhere close to rotating equipment such as spindles, chucks and workpieces in first place whether you have gloves on or not unless the machinery is completely de-energised and ideally locked off as well to prevent accidental re-energisation.

@@maxpowerii7368 Well all i can say is they are not trained and taught to use gloves or have lose clothing So really its up to them once they on own, and yes i do think some help advice and comments on the workings of a lathe a good for anybody learning them i have watched what she does and impressed but it does,nt mean she done it safe.

@@maxpowerii7368 Yeah, and I've seen countless vids of folks getting their arms sucked into machinery from complacency and stupidity and ignorance as well as countless vids of idiots shooting themselves from ignoring one or more of the 4 basic rules of firearm safety too as well. Complacency breeds contempt. And you're apparently full of it. People like you are the ones who give the rest of us 'worry warts' a bad name. There is NEVER enough time for SAFETY as well as NO JOB is EVER too 'important' or 'expensive' or 'in a rush' or 'needs doing NOW' to ignore the basic tenants of being SAFE while doing it. Go back to your couch and leave the dealing with busted up humans (been there done it for a lifetime)to those of us who are well trained and experienced.
