    Im making a couple of Victorian aprons atm, one with pin tucks already done for me. Thrifted quilt covers are Gods own special gift to us costumers. In the 1980's and 90's heavily cotton embroidered ones with matching deep flounced lace and eyelet trims were very common, and when i started doing this over 20 years ago - these lace quilt covers were quite common. However now, I think our costume guild and historical costumers have all but exhausted the supply over the years as I have not had a good find in ages. I have some stunning Victorian underskirts and blouses as a result, but Ive never seen a lovely plaid like this. So pretty. Lovely video to go to bed on 🙂

    Thank you! Yes, it's definitely hard to find nice sheets these days at the thrift stores, but every now and then something turns up!

    I have several top sheets that I have saved for other projects (crocheted rugs). Unfortunately the colors and the prints are not something I would wear. Love the simplicity of the skirt! ♥️👍🤓

    Very nice tutorial on a useful petticoat! Old bedsheets are definitely a favorite of mine. My family loves finding them for me and then seeing what they’re turned into. As for projects, I am kind of doing the opposite of “quick and easy” by hand sewing a fully boned pair of stays for my mother. I am thankful the backstitch is my favorite stitch since I have a lot of that in my future lol

    Looks fabulous. Perfect timing. Whitby goth weekend is coming up at the end of october. And I am needing outfits. I've lost weight and dont have time to work out how to alter previous costumes. Quick and simple this year with fun fabrics.

    Thank you! I'm kind of in that spot too. Haven't lost enough to require new corsets yet, but they're closing all the way now without much gap. I'm waiting to do any serious altering of costumes.

    Sort of what I'm doing. No corsets though. Have figured out that corsets and wheelchairs are too uncomfortable and have a habit of riding up. So simple easy to take in costumes for the fore see able. Fun fabrics for interest. History bounding instead of historically adequate. 😀

    no, there are no easy sewing projects in my future, I'm working on a party blouse from 1886, I'm going to sew a winter jacket and a Christmas dress, where I'll make the pattern myself, something completely new. but I'm looking forward to all parts You are looking beautiful in your new skirt ❤

    A trick I learned years and years ago for gathering .cut a piece of string or cotton yarn t and using a wide zigzag stich sew it along the top border of your skirt. Then simply pull the string evenly from both sides to required measurement. No broken stitches, no frustration.

    thanks so much! If I were to want more fullness and gathering, would I just add more rectangular panels to the skirt?

  • @PocketFullofPoseys

    @PocketFullofPoseys

    3 ай бұрын

    Yes! But, depending on your waist measurement, your gathers may need to be very dense to fit a smaller waist measurement.

    Love the technique! How many yards do you recommend if you are not using a sheet?

  • @PocketFullofPoseys

    @PocketFullofPoseys

    2 ай бұрын

    That depends on the width of your fabric and desired length. 2.25-2.5 yards should be plenty in a 50-60 inch wide fabric. If you use a narrower width fabric, you might want three panels with the closure at center back, so 3.25-3.5 yards.
