Super Duper Trophy Ship - Episode 66 - Dreadnought Improvement Project v2 Spanish Campaign
Ойындар
One of the not so great things about playing Spain is that you don't get any really cool cruiser hulls. Japan on the other hand has some really cool ones. Like this one we 'liberated' from them, threw away their junk design and made a far too expensive but ludicrously fun super duper forward firing monster!

As a former squid of 9 years (carriers) Diesel Generators were used for all sorts of applications throughout the ship. The EDG (Emergency Diesel Generator) is used when all power to the ship is lost. We constantly checked it every time we went to sea.
On the Amagi (1951) refit it's clear that Japan is scraping the barrel. They don't even have enough guns to arm their ships
I love what you did with the IJN CA lol
Loved the new layout of the Japanese trophy ship. I was hoping though that you can add a pair of torpedo launchers astern.
38:18: See, if you take ships off your enemies you get the benefit of an Artisan campaign without the limitations.
17:00 cruiser battle at Nelson distances.
What do you think of a campaign where the only way to get new ships after your starting fleet is to acquire them from other nations? Refits for them would be allowed of course.

I second this thought.
Now I wonder if that absolutely over-the-top fun ship you were trying to build with 5 triple 11" guns is possible to build at all! That would be terrifying to see, not going to lie!

probably possible with less speed and the same minimal towers and a few other sacrifices
You didnt add amour on the secondary 4 inch guns on the captured ship. They just get blown off in most fights.
That IS a nice cruiser hull. I see what you mean. I would have loved it if you could have grabbed one of those torpedo cruisers. Those are crazy.

Next time? 😇
Love new cruiser ❤
I think you broke the AI 😂
In my current campaign the Germans have fielded CLs costing over $8 billion each, nearly 50,000 victory points for each one sunk! I'll take that.
7:44: Put your guns on save and live dangerously.
Alternate Title: Spanish Takao
Perhaps you could grab the 18" BB and refit it so you waste less time building the thing and have a true flagship. Not saying the current BB are nice BUT bigger guns have more BOOM and that's nicer IMO.
Wuzzat, BM trying to place actual secondary guns on a ship ?
5:40: It's a Frankenship. Very much a What the Foch is This?
A shame you threw away the Libertad there, the star of the Pacific campaign.
25:50 Actually, the Diesel-Electric system is more simple than you actually put it. It's cmposed that Diesel engines that run the generators that power electric motors to power the auxiliary systems (like pumps, davits, winches, rudder, ecc...). And there are the Gas Turbines that power the propellers to move the ship

I interpreted it as being similar to the engineering systems we have on nuclear subs (I was a Nuke electrician on SSBNs). Gas turbines drive the props, aux (in sub's case "emergency") diesel engines drive electrical generators, which in addition to providing electricity to the ship, also can be used to power the props by decoupling the gas turbines and engaging an emergency propulsion (electric) motor. On our boat the EPM was good for about 4kts.

@@jeff1930 It's basically what I said. I only said it more simple

Many multi-role commercial vessels use Diesel-electric systems nowadays. Especially vessels that uses a DP systems (be it using bow thrusters, azimuth thrusters, propellers) and having a large electric load (winches, sonars, modular equipment, etc) that can change quite rapidly. Smaller diesel electric units allow some redundancy (which can be extremely critical when operating near oil platforms) or the ability to run a smaller number of units for more economic operation, while it is relatively fast to start up additional units when loads are expected to increase, compared to large marine diesel motors. I think it is also becoming more common in warships where nowadays electric loads are beginning to take a large proportion of total propulsion plants. The new F126 frigates of the German Navy will be Combined diesel-electric and diesel (CODLAD), running diesel-electric for economic purposes and engaging a high speed diesel if needed. Larger vessels run Integrated electric propulsion (IEP) using both gasturbine-electric and diesel-electric for base / peak power like the Type 45 destroyer, QE-carriers and the Zumwalt destroyers.
Why not when refitting AI ships you steal why not try to keep the design it already had but improving it where it needs to be improved?

@unclegreybeard3969 I know but more like keep the guns, funnels, towers unchanged and only change things like armor, speed, bulkheads, etc.

@@btdfightertheavali1848 The original design did pretty shite with its displacement. Sure, with effort something can be done, but 'clear structure' was a way for BM to not go mental trying to improve the ship with the severe limitations of sticking with the OG superstructure. I do understand where you come from, because heavily gutting a ship like this is not realistic... but the AI already started with building a ship that no sane person would build or use in the first place. In the end taking the ship is pretty much for shit and giggles, playing around with Japanese tech. Better warbooty ships where sent to the scrapyards / nuked / SINKEX-ed because it was to much hassle to make use of them.
