I'm so happy that Pat plugged Clemps. Those videos are fantastic, and I consider him the immediate "go-to" for catching up with the series. Seriously, if you want to get 100% of the important info to understand what's happening. Go to Clemps.

***** This wasn't in my notifications for some reason, but I sadly have no idea It's worse considering they do it more than once. I'll probably give them a listen at some point.

It's my opinion that Ending C of Drakengard 1 would make a good spinoff game. Also the stuff involving Red Eye (before Nier proper) could make two games. One could be a third or first person shooter. Another could be a JRPG.

One of the endings to one of the Drakengard games is you opening a portal to modern day Tokyo and using your dragon to fight a bunch of fighter jets and I'm still not sure why that happens. That shit is insane and I'm not at all surprised that it was possibly made while drunk.

You didn't play the game because you never fight fighter jets. You fight a giant bald lady made of salt by playing a rhythm game and then you get shot down by jets in a cutscene.

I've seen that DG3 is bad in it's own way, but its definitely better than 1 and 2. The creator who did 1 purposely made 1 bad on purpose so you feel like shit for killing so many people. 3 is playable, but I've seen some LPs that complain about purposely make their gameplay less enjoyable. For one they chose to not upgrade their weapons when they could to save up money to upgrade all the weapons at the end game all at once to get the ending, so they play the game with weak weapons that drag out fights. The second thing they do is fight with only one type of weapon. There are 4 or 5 types that have their own styles you can change up on the fly mid battle, but they tend to just stick with one type and complain that the combat is repetitive and boring despite making the choice to play that way. Side note don't agree with Pat about the DLCs being better than the main game. They are interesting, but wouldn't say they do much to improve the story.

Not to be an asshole, but I'm real happy that Nier Auto hasn't started some big uprising of fans claiming the series is some magnificent creation like KH. I don't think I could handle another massive wave of people ignoring all of the faults of a story and yelling at me to experience their needlessly complicated schlock.

How is Nier Automata needlessly complicated? The story is pretty straightforward.

  • @psycholuigiman

It's not so much Nier Auto I'm calling needlessly complicated. I've got other issues with that game that are strictly just my own feelings. I'm refering to the series as a whole being needlessly complicated. For example, why are these games connected again? It'd probably be better if they stood entirely on their own. It'd be like if somebody tried to make a timeline of Final Fantasy. It would only complicate a simple collection of good games. Not to mention huge chunks of the series canon can only be discovered through Japan exclusive books, audio dramas, plays, comics, and movies. On top of all that, the creator likes to come out with new lore at random points after a game comes out. Trying to keep up with it all is surely a nightmare, even if you're native to Japan. So, that's why I think the series is needlessly complicated.

All of that extra stuff is totally unnecessary for enjoying the game. You really don't have to keep up with any of it if you don't want to, I certainly don't. It's just some extra details for people who want it. As to why Drakengard and Nier are connected in the first place, I think it's just to signal that the two series deal with very similar themes but approached from different angles and coming to very different conclusions. That said, I think you're putting too much importance in the connection between Drakengard and Nier. In the games themselves (which is the only part I care about) the connection is really only hinted at as an easter egg for people who've played both. Maybe there's more convoluted details in some books somewhere, but as far as the games go, I think it's kept pretty simple and in the background.

Whatever. I'm not in the mood to have this discussion. Your idea is to basically just ignore everything that isn't a game, even though important events that are not touched on happen outside of the games. Yeah, of course it looks simpler without that stuff. For me, it all falls apart when I start asking questions.

  • @Zeppelinator427

I ask plenty of questions, I just don't feel the need to go outside of the games to answer any of them. I think they stand on their own just fine. I look at it the same way as the star wars extended universe, if people want to read all that stuff that's fine, but I'm perfectly happy just watching the movies.
