The footage in this video was taken on Feb-25, 2024. One month later, on Mar-26, 2024 a large container ship hit a pylon of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore causing it to collapse. Interestingly, the precursor to today's Sunshine Skyway Bridge had a similar fate: It was hit on May-9, 1980 by a freighter and one of two bridge lanes collapsed, causing the death of 35 people.
The replacement bridge seen in this video was opened on Apr-30, 1987. Note the many bumpers and rock islands protecting the bridge pylons. Construction and protection of bridges changed after the 1980 disaster, but the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore had already been completed in 1977 and no protections were retrofitted.
