Joining up with ‪@GxAce‬, ‪@DavidImel‬, / xiaoxinghan and / capperhd for a road trip from Tokyo to Mt. Fuji in Japan.
This is fun vlog from a very last-minute impromptu trip with some new friends I made at the Fujifilm X-Summit. Hopefully it shows a casual perspective on how it is to travel with a bunch of photographers in Japan!
We each had a few cameras with us, featuring a mix of digital and analogue options. For myself, I brought my newly purchased Nikon FM2/T and 55mm ƒ/2.8 along with the Fujifilm 56mmF1.2 for my X-H2S.

    You look like you're having an amazing time... So pleased for you, Joe. I also recently caught the film/analogue bug, and started collecting old Minolta bodies and lenses... I just love the completely different process, it forces me to take real care with every composition (film is pricey now!) and every picture just means more. Enjoy the Nikon!

    I met Casey at the vintage camera fair in Ginza a little prior to the Fujifilm event, such a cool guy, super happy to talk him in person. Also, the guy at the camera store with a beanie is my friend as well, surprised to see him in this video. FM2T is definitely the single best beginner camera for film photography, good luck with that one.

  • @joeallam

    @joeallam

    It’s definitely possible from Tokyo, but you’re gonna be at the mercy of train or bus schedules and possibly a couple of taxis to/from hotel to Fujiyoshida town. As a solo traveller though, without the car will be significantly cheaper. In a group, splitting the cost justifies it easily.

If you need someone to speak Japanese with the gallery please let me know.

    FM2/T is a nice choice! Don't see the T variants of the Nikons very often in the UK - I picked up an F3/T myself somewhat recently but I had to do that via Japanese sellers on eBay 😅 The only thing I don't love on that era of Nikons is the film winder, which seems to want to collapse in on itself any time I'm using it, but otherwise they're great cameras. Now you just need to pick up a few more so you can have different film stock loaded in each 😆

  • @joeallam

    I’d never seen one in person and then during this trip to Tokyo I saw 4 available to buy and we bought 2 of them! Added to the others who already had them as well and I think we might have a mini monopoly on them in Japan 😂

    @@joeallam You're in the worst country in the world in which to develop a film camera habit - there's so many great quality cameras about, and all the store owners are so nice, that you're gonna have a shelf full of the things by next year 😆 At least you're not (currently) a Leica addict, I guess?

    I’ve been to that cafe (and all the spots in the is video), and that spot across the road twice. My first time at that spot (across the road) I was the only person there, that cafe wasn’t there in 2019 and I swear the cafe open as a result of the foot traffic from that one single photo spot on that bend. Nice cafe but also feels like a tourist trap now. So much so there are 2 full time employee by the local government to stop tourist walking into the middle of the road at a red light blocking traffic, endangering themselves for photos.
