    @@zulwhite6007 Simple answer, I see it like this. Garmin is like iPhone. It's simpler to use, user friendly and more reliable. If you're new to sailing then that's what should interest you. B&G is like Android. It has a higher learning curve but if you're a experienced sailor geek and like tweaking your preferences and layout then this is the one you want. The more saltier Captains would prefer B&G.

    This is a 5-cabin layout with 3 cabins to the starboard hull, 2 cabins to port and then the crew cabin. It's a gorgeous boat for sure and I love the deco. But this was designed for chartering. I would much prefer a 3-cabin layout with galley-down for fulltime liveaboard.

    @@martincrisp3385 It doesn't. I'm just saying on a 3-4 cabin layout for a Cat this size, placing the galley on the lower deck would open up more space on the main deck which could also have a massive fully-wide master suite. Now imagine walking to your master past the salon. No stairs needed and you would have an amazing view of the bow each day you wake up. There are many other examples of this but this would be my preference.

    I LOVE the giant Ship's Wheel on the upper deck. I miss seeing them on big boats. Most makers are putting car sized wheels on their boats..or worse yet..track balls.... and that's just silly. You want majesty. You want a helm that looks like a helm. Nice boat. My only critique on doing a voice tour is that we don't get to see you in the setting and compare sizing of a human in the cabins. Visuals that help people decide if the boat is built to fit midgets or full sized folks. Other than that.... great review.

  • @ek9772

    @ek9772

    4 жыл бұрын

    justfly2525 the three keys for me are the following: 1- will the engine allow regeneration under sail? 2- is the battery bank at least 200 kWh? 3- are the solar panels similar to AE-solar panels? This is what I need to sail electrically. From the verbal commentary, two of these requirements are not met. It sounds like it only has a 70-kWh battery bank, and no information was made regarding to the shading on the solar panels, but it will regenerate under sail. Probably, the next iteration will get there. My mistake it has 140 kWh; therefore, something does not make sense. It is using about 20-kWh each hour, and it is using 10-kWh per motor each hour. This sounds excessive, and either my assumptions are wrong, the electric engines consume too much energy, or the boat produces to much friction with the water. Compare this at a similar speed with the Silent Yacht 55 energy consumption per hour.

  • @CL-gq3no

    @CL-gq3no

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@ek9772, the speed makes a huge difference in power consumption. The Silent Yacht is often using speeds of 3 to 5 knots in it's calculations. I believe they are using 6 knots here. So probably not an apples to apples comparison.

If the electric engines turn to steer the boat, do they have to be turning/on when in 'sail' mode in decent wind or are they big enough to act as a rudder?? Also can you walk on that solar roof? Good idea to have it semi see through for cooling & efficiency but you need to be able to get up there for sail purposes. I'm a big guy at 250lb and would worry about strength of that solar roof!

    The crew's quarters and facilities are most important as they reflect the respect and appreciation of the yacht owner for his crew. Too often over and under pokey bunks in a closet space with a wet bathroom, a shower over the toilet and wash basin. When the salesman does not show something, saying it is unimportant, it suggests a cover-up of something not up to the standard of the rest. Very disappointing. I cannot view this boat's plans on the web without giving Sunreef the right to use cookies. Cookies is a sweet term for back door access to my computer. The sales technique does not equal the the quality of the product. A customer expects service, not servitude.

    That might be in the future, but Hydrogen is no magic bullet, it's mostly a petrol product now lobbied by same old oil industry. If you sail 50% of the time in Caribian environment, you use hardly any diesel with this system. 10h of sailing and the battery is again full and there's enough of electricity for almost a week in the battery. And if there's sunny days, you will hardly never need to start the generator on this boat.

    140 kWh of Lithium batteries, 2 x Tesla Model 3 capacity -> Yes. And when sailing in good wind conditions, 10h of recharging battery bank with electric motors (left and right) used as generators using water resistance while moving. Quick math 140kWh/10h = 14kW per hour -> 7kW generating power/motor while sailing. This is why I think best way forward is to make Sail/Electric yachts instead of just electric yachts. Water current have much more energy than wind of solar panels. Together they are invincible combination

    Not really cruise forever. If there is no wind you have less than 3hrs motoring then you are relying on Diesel again. Will even lose steering if you have a power feed problem. Surely they thought of this?

    It's funny how they are selling the " sail forever". Do the math going full electric isn't efficient. The solar panels won't charge enough to keep an electronic motor running not to mention your fridge AC and all that. Solar tech isn't quite there efficiency wise. At least you have a sail. I've seen others that rely completely on solar with a backup generator. You will run that generator more than you think just to motor around. Marketing is just that. Selling a product that in reality won't deliver on promise.

    @@pain_weaver they didn't mention that propellers can recharge batteries when you sail under wind with sails and electric motor are power generators too

    Isn't it beam ... not width? ... and owners cabin ... not master ? If you are narrating yachts tours have you chosen not to use nautical terminology in order to appeal to people who don't understand the yachtie names? Or is it a second language thang?

    What to do with such a boat? this is nice, BUT, what's the point? I want to sail the oceans (everywhere) and have to sit in the open in cold, rainy weather? High windage with a fly-bridge. And then the price.... NOPE!

    pan and move slower, you're making me dizzy, and don't show a companionway and not go down it. very difficult to guess where it leads without a commentary. Nice move though to do a walk around a silent yacht in complete silence, got a bit boring though after the first 30 seconds
