We’ve never taken our sheltie to the groomer, but I brush her almost every day I’m with her and give her a bath once a month. She does not like baths or brushing, but thankfully I enjoy grooming her so she has little to no mats!

I haven’t either I bathe and do his nails. I love the clean look but does it do anything for the shedding. Besides the brushing. Lol. I have never cut his hair other than with the wide tooth brush you use in the video. His hair between his toes make it hard to get a quick clip on his nails. I put him in my farmers sink and wet his feet and clip. And her feet look awesome that is such a great idea. I thought Shelties weren’t supposed to be cut but I like her’s.

Several of the steps on this video go against what most breeders and multiple Sheltie owners believe should be part of the groom, and they are very robust about how the coat should groomed. However, this type of groom is very practical. I had a show groomer do this type of trim at my request and it grew out in a few months without any ill effects.

I just hope you ask each client if they want their shelties to be trimmed! Personally, I would be horrified if any of my shelties came back to me looking like this. Each owner is different of course. But, I have heard too many stories of shelties coming back from the groomer being trimmed like this and the owner was totally unaware this would happen. I just love their thick and luscious coats!

@@elainechen3036 I can not tell you how many of sheltie owners have had the same experience you did! The same exact issue. The groomer was told not to trim yet the dog was returned trimmed. While I can understand some folks liking that look and for ease of coat maintenance, it is inexcusable to have your dog returned being trimmed when you specifically said NOT TO DO SO.

I groom my own sheltie and do a lot of similar things. I still cannot make up my mind how to do the "gouchos" as we call his rear leg fur. Shelties are tricky and yah, you are not shooting for show dog style which would be pretty long from what I see. I overtrim so I don't have to cut every 2 months.
