So what is a “shorting ring”. Or shortening ring? And what does it do? Is it just a spacer between motor and basket and it allows for more cooling of the Voicecoil?

Shorting ring is a metal ring, often made from copper, that's added to the motor to either extend the magnetic field further or reduce inductance and distortion or all of the above. Some say they don't do anything at high power and excursion. I know that at least in mids it can make a real change because it reduces inductance and makes them play higher and clearer, but for subs it's hard to say. Sundown uses them in most of their higher end motors and have measured a big difference, but I don't know with how much power.

Can you rebuild audiopipe quad stack 15's? I have 4 of them just sitting in my garage and would like to have them reconed! They are 2800 max 1400 rms dual 4ohm. They are the first generation with the big AP in the middle of the dust caps....

Can you do one on a Harmony Comp sub? If you have one, lol. Very last sub I bought was that. 170 bucks on sale on Amazon. Feeding off of a stetsom 3k, @ 4ohms( a dual 2 coil) turned way down. Absolutely hammers my truck and puts a smile on my face, everytime. Really wish I had found this channel decade ago! Bless ya'll!!

I used to think the same thing but woofers are kind of dumb in the sense that they're just big pistons so it actually does not affect the sound the way that you might think most of the parameters actually come from the flux density of the motor. Basically how powerful the magnet is

I do recommend going with daily driver type of parameters which means a soft suspension but if you want SPL I can offer that as well

For the money, one of our BBC 2500W amps for $250 shipped.. No branding, so you can resell it for more even after a year. If you want a brand, the Recoil Audio RED2500.1 for the same money is the best value on Amazon imo

So if JL is a bad value for SQ, what's a good value? And I know JL is bad value, they are ridiculously expensive and make it as hard as possible to get parts so they can charge crazy rates to rebuild them. I got a blown 12" W6v3 that I have thought about rebuilding a few times but I don't know if the parts online sacrifice SQ and sending it to JL is over $400 for them to do it, which is a total rip off, I don't think that even includes shipping. Hell they want $50 just for a shipping box lmao.

My cost on their 15" is $50. They want $269.

I came across a company that sells motors and they use 3” gaps for 50oz and 80oz motors and 4” gaps for 240oz motors. Efficiency doesn’t like 3” gaps due to the added weight but why would performance use 2-1/2” gaps. (I am currently fascinated with the 80/90/00 era of home audio large cabinet style sets). And I’m an idiot learning this as a hobby, please bare with me.

The Houston area also has one of the biggest car audio industries in Texas since the port is right here a lot of manufacturers have warehouses filled with all their audio equipment here.

Well I have that Quad stack version which more like the Twisted Sounds.

Patrick I have a dumb question,, I have two subs will say speaker A and speaker B ,,, speaker A has a 420 oz motor 2 inch voice coil ,,6 3/8 holes for pole venting and a seven and a half inch spider,,,B has a 420 oz motor2.5 inch voice coil,,,6. 3/8 holes plus1.5 through the center of the T yolk and 8 inch spider,,,,,A is rated 300 RMS 600 Peak??B is rated 600 RMS 900 Peak??? I don't get it how does a 1 inch hole through the T yoke account for a 300w RMS difference should you choose to humor me ,,Thank you for your time and have a good rest of the day

The pole vent cools the coil that much yea plus the extra half inch combined I’d say ya easy

Fine. It depends when they're on sale. I like the EVL's. And I think the DDX which is the SA knockoff. Right now though, the VCW from Sonix is the king at only $170 shipped per 12

Does the sav2 use the same spider as the u series since they use the same basket what size is it??

Correct. The U just has a 3" coil while the SAv2 is 2.75"

This is the SA Version 2. The rev .3 came out before this. There’s no version 3 yet. Theres drop in recones for this subwoofer for $126. so no biggie

The sa 15 used to be the same basket as the skar DDX which I love best bang for the buck

For such and expensive name brand you would expect better quality control. I've seen Sundown subs fall apart from everything like the spiders to the tinsel leads. Still rocking my Audiopipes tho. Keep the videos coming dude

That's a 200$ It takes multiple of them at least 4 then we talkin that sub had good life and sound.I always talk to them first.I Have a brand new Zv6 on scv6k.And a replacement on one of those brand new!👍that's why I love sundown.There warranty is unstoppable.💯

idk if i like these much. seems like the older sa series were a much better buy i guess. idk ive tried sundown a couple times throughout the years i dont quite understand the sundown premium when it comes to their prices. when they first came out i had hope for sundown now to me it seems they just make a ton of money off of the toxicity of the car audio community

This is the sa v2 they only have the sa classic and the sa classic rev 2 but still the v1, this is the v2 just like the u but the u has the motor of a x.

I can respect your opinion as you are well versed when it comes to building good drivers but I also heard other experts pick apart your custom subs the same way, how they could be better for one reason or another and things you did that were “cheap tricks” or “cheating” which is n absurd argument if it does what it’s suppose to… gotta love seller bias for their own products and that’s everyone..although if I were to start a company and needed a designer I think Jacob has a lot more expertise to offer…sorry my Llama😂. Skar has some decent offerings, I like their VXF series and with the sale going on right now, pretty good deal. However, anyone who says they are just as good as Sundown are high asf.
