My late father and his brother both worked for British Steel and he was one of the operators of this great beast and as a youngster I was lucky enough to go on to the operating area of this machine!

Just seen a programme on the Yesterday TV channel about a similar size dragline called "Oddball". So I thought I would look up "Sundew" which I saw as a ~10-year old kid walking its route across Rutland. Can you imagine how awesome it was that a lady who was a friend of my parents and had dealings with the quarry, arranged for me and my brother to visit Sundew, and we were allowed to go inside it, not when it was actually digging, but its electric generators and exciters were running! It was amazingly loud and hot inside and I remember walking through one enclosed corridor walkway that was incredibly drafty due to the cooling fans circulating air. That is one of my favourite childhood big-machinery moments. I remember being dumbstruck by the scale of it and thinking it seemed like some amazing mechanical cathedral inside. Alas we weren't taken into the cab, we had to make do with looking through the door/window! Thanks for the video Chris.

It spent some time at Priors Hall, I suppose it’s Londonshire now😂 I remember it working that quarry before it was laid up, across from Weldon tip.

Any idea what the route of the walk was? I've been through exton park quite a bit and have always wondered where Sundew worked.
