SUN STUDIO SESSIONS - "Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground" Justin Johnson
Музыка
One of my favorite Blues songs, "Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground," originally recorded by Blind Willie Johnson, and recorded here for my 'Smoke & Mirrors' album at one of the coolest studios on earth, Sun Studio, in Memphis, TN.

I pray the Lord opens the skies for Blind Willie to hear how his music is being handled with such reverence by this master musician.
Knowing that this song is forever immortalised far into deep space proving we existed brings tears to my eyes and to whoever finds it will know we have a soul
This needs to be in a Clint Eastwood western. Three thumbs up! 👍👍👍

argi0774 don’t kill the fun like that
He knows how to use the space between notes. SOOO much more emotional than all the finger-jockey, 1000-notes-per-second shredders out there.

Very reverential to the Blind Willie Johnson original.
Sitting on the porch after a hard day at work, cold drink in hand listening to Justin. Amazing.

Really is the perfect combination.
That song (along with many others including Chuck Berry) is on a disc, on the side of Voyager 1, currently over 13.5 billion miles (22 light hours away).

I believe that things happen for a reason. I just finished talking to my mama who I've been taking care of for the last 6 yrs. She ask me not to be mad but she wants me to let her go. I then get this notification from you. It's true when you don't have the words you have music. Thank you. 🌼

That's what my mind sounded like trying to decide what to have for dinner. Thanks Justin I think I'm going for the ribeye
Like painters work, or a novelists writings, your music has your signature all over it.
Doing Blind Willie justice by way of Ry Cooder, Mr. Johnson. Those glissandos paint vivid landscapes. Excellent as always!
Fantastico
In the mornings, I listen to the news. At the nights, I listen to the delta blues.
Absolutely beautiful version of this classic of classics.
To walk the long road, with the Stars to guide me. Where we end up no one knows. Friends we meet a long the way makes the journey worthwhile.
Shades of Stevie Ray, this guy is outstanding! Justin is as good as it gets, just love listening to him while sipping my Shiner!
Thanks Justin.
Chillin with Justin
Can't get enough of Justin Johnson, want to hear his guitars everywhere I go; warning, listening to him playing is highly addictive!
Soo mellow
You are legend. This is some Quentin Tarantino-type film music.
Sounds like walking the so. cal. train track in 1965,which I did as a small child. All my family aged and passed and now there seems to be no slide guitars out here. Makes me cry and remember why crying is healthy. Thx. So beautiful.
The song actually sounds like the title.

it also describes the setting of where and when blind willie johnson died, he was sleeping on the cold ground in the dark night
This song makes me want to cry :'(
Hauntingly beautiful and the most mournful blues tune in history. Maybe my favorite.
Thanks Justin. It's great how you are able to wring out the emotion in your audience through your signature playing style.
👍🏻 Welcome to Memphis
Can anyone else got to sleep with this playing in the night , love them ol western style songs perfect for a good night's sleep
That was definitely "dark" and "cold" with some loneliness and pondering sprinkled on top.
Thanks for being there
amazing justin , nice old school , posey evry little part of silence is music , has his place in this great moment without fioritures , enjoy bro see you next time in nice session , pleasure
The reverb really adds to the atmosphere. It sounds great on a resophonic guitar too.
rockstar should’ve made you the musician for red dead redemption 2 lol 🤙🏼
