Ps... don't run out and buy one for the fun of it. They live 35 years and are SCREAMERS and LOUD. EAR PIERCING LOUD. so if you're not ready to be married to your toddler bird... don't get one. If you're a busy body, work a lot or impatient... DO NOT. Not fair for them to be locked in a cage all the time just so you can say you have one. They're FANTASTIC little friends if you can manage them. Otherwise, enjoy online and move on.

Guys, if youre legitimately interested in a parrot, know that this video only talked about the good, and none of the bad. These are very demanding wild animals that won't do well in most households. Do your research to find out if the bird is right for you and your living situation is right for the bird.

Totally agree. I adopted a sun conure six months ago when he was just 4 months old. I tried to train him for months and until today, he hates me. He yells a lot and hates being around people in general. Captive parrots still having wild tendencies. Update: my parrot has improved his behavior a lot, he loves scratches on the head and steps on me. Do your research before adopting a parrot, these are not easy pets. Second update: Me and my conure have become completely bonded, he learned how to talk, he yells at me everyday after coming home from work, we decorated the Christmas tree together, he loves listening to music specially salsa. If you’re rehabbing an aggressive parrot be patient and give him space, they don’t hate you, they just liked to be loved from a long distance.

I met one of these pretties. I danced with him for a bit before I had to leave the store. Thankfully, I was able to acknowledge that I shouldn't get a bird due to the fact I haven't done enough research, and wouldn't know how to take care of him. Beautiful and fun, but still a living being that needs real love and respect.

Yes and no. While there are great clips there are also a lot with questionable behavior of the bird and the owner. This head circling isn’t normal and generally means that the bird is hormonal, which is a problem for parrots. It can lead to sexual frustration and aggressive behaviors. In females it can in rare cases even lead to the death of the bird (untreated egg-binding). You should also never get mammal saliva on your bird as it’s absolutely toxic for them.

I had my lovely Sun Conure for 25yrs. I lost her a year ago and I still turn to talk to her or am surprised to not hear her talking away at me when I get home.😢 She laughed with amazing timing laughing at jokes, so so many wonderful sweet and of course absolutely gorgeous. But their screech, not the cute ones, but the all out fully loud one😮... it is shockingly loud. They do need lots of attention and as you can see, they'll be around a long long time, so you need to be aware of that. And the larger parrots live waaaaay longer. So, they can be amazing pets for sure, but absolutely think through 25 to 50yrs of care with a smart animal that needs lots of attention. It's a big commitment, so be prepared. If you're prepared, treat them really well and you'll have a lovely companion for a long time😊

@@neoanderson4840 it's a long time for sure! For the big birds, they say to be sure you put something in your will, especially depending on your age I'm sure, but, to be sure they have a home, just in case. I've been married 32yrs, and no plans for that or change :)🥰 But, she was with us for most of those... our son was about 6 when we got her. So, yea, its a commitment for sure, but, as long as you, your family and your home are prepared for them and their needs, then it can be a wonderful thing. But, just need to be aware of the good and bad before making those choices... just like with anything :)

The biggest regret I have in my life is not buying a Sun Conure once. I used to visit this pet store all the time, a really nice family owned it, but they weren't exactly top notch at taking care of all their animals. As someone who has previously worked in a pet store & owned just about every pet imaginable, I liked to visit to offer them advice sometimes (which they appreciated). One day I go in and they have a couple new birds, one being a Sun Conure with a sign up that says "Careful, I bite!!" The bird was sitting on the top of the cage, chirping & reaching, trying to get people to come close to it. Any time someone would, sure enough, he'd nip at them. I went up and started talking to him, and put my finger out for him to step up. He immediately tried to bite me, I let him & grabbed his beak with my other hand, firmly pulled him off and told him no. He froze like someone had just dumped a bucket of water on him. I put my finger out for him again, this time he bit hard enough to nearly draw blood, and I did the exact same thing. The third time I invited him up, he hopped on my finger, promptly attempted biting me some more, and I just kept correcting him until he stopped. Eventually he just gave up and started grooming himself & ruffling his feathers asking for scratches, so I put him on my shoulder & walked around the store with him. When the owner saw me, she started to freak out, going "Oh, he's really mean!" I held up a bleeding finger and said "Yeah, but he's chill now." She was shocked that I got him to settle down, and I showed her what I did (because of course he tried to bite her as soon as he realized he may have a new victim). The next few times I came to the shop, I would immediately pick up Paco & take him around the shop with me. He would hang out in my hoodie, or my hair, and eventually the owner said "Why don't you just buy him already?" I told her that on a college student budget, it really wasn't in my cards to be able to afford a bird like Paco. She said I could put him on hold, basically, and take as long as I wanted to pay for him & his set-up, and I'd get a discount on all future purchases for him. I thought about it for 2 weeks. Finally I decided I had delayed long enough & I really wanted that bird. I went to the shop, only to be told that Paco had passed away. The owner would often take animals home with her over the long weekends when the shop would be closed, so she didn't have to stay in the shop without customers & the animals didn't have to be left alone. Well, she took Paco home with her & because he was acting much more friendly since we were training him, she let her toddler grandson "say hi" & he squeezed the bird. Never in my life have I ever regretted anything as much as not bringing that bird home with me when I had the chance. 😢

Remember, guys: Parrots are not as simple as a dog or cat. Please make sure to do your research and thoroughly consider whether or not an exotic bird is right for you. Some of the checks you should consider are: 1) Parrots are Loud/Noisy. Depending on the species, they can be loud and/or noisy. Some more than others. If you're easily annoyed, can't handle loud noises, or live in an apartment, maybe reconsider. 2) Time Commitment. Depending on the species, parrots can live anywhere from 20-80+ years. It is not uncommon for parrots to outlive their owners. If you know that you might very likely pass before your bird, please secure a trusted friend or family member to take in the bird if the worse were to happen. 3) Spring Hormones. Cats and dogs going into heat can be prevented by spay or neuter. Birds cannot be spayed or neutered on account that they have no "genitalia". And when mating season comes around, they get crazy. There's not really a set formula to deal with this; just be patient and try to keep them busy with toys and interactions. Obviously, there are way more things to consider. Like I said, do your research. Parrots are still largely wild animals and way too many get illegally smuggled into the pet trade just to be abandoned months, maybe weeks, later.

Mind everyone; birds are incredibly difficult pets along with conures. They scream a lot, and its to exercise their lungs, you have adjust your surroundings (electric cords, safety plugs, dangerous cleaners, etc) they easily get allergies which can lead to diarrhea, cheap food for them can cause mites, diarrhea, other intestinal issues. Vet visits for the birds arent cheap and if you cant afford a vet visit, you shouldn't have an animal. They are easily bored and curious which leads to destruction, and they only adapt to one person usually so they arent great for guest or children. Theres a million difficulties owning birds, i know as i have a lovely pineapple conure named lady 😊

One of my colleagues has a Sun Conure. During the pandemic, we can hear this animal squawking and chirping, usually for attention of some sort. We would beg our colleague to get on the video so we could see this bird in action. It's something we always looked forward to when talking to this guy. Such wonderful, sweet animals 😍

be warned that they make very demanding pets and are not friendly with many people. My conure hates kids and has attacked elderly. He can tell who can’t stop him and will try to bully them. It’s very difficult to train a bird and you need a lot of money. If you aren’t young, rich and childless with a ton of energy to put into a birds enrichment activities, it’s not for you

Strange. Our sun conure, Joey, was the sweetest soul. He was all of the good things and none of the bad. He was no longer a young bird and started to show signs of slowing down. l spent as much time with him as l could. He passed during the night. In the morning l couldn't see him right away. He had covered himself with a piece of soft paper. It breaks my heart that he created his own shroud. I miss him greatly.

@@carolinamansur113 Yes. Thank you. I still have two bird babies, Leia (a macaw), and Greenie (a green cheeked conure). They are sweet birds but of course l miss my little ray of sunshine. They all have a different place in my heart. Greenie is also an older bird and conures being small don't live as long. The macaw may well outlive me.

Well behaved? I heard someone else refer to them as toddlers. Toss in a little entitled small brat and we might be on the right track. Seriously, they are fun little critters, but many do seem entitled, so I can't agree with well behaved. Not all the time, anyway. Sneaky little pranksters might be a good description... 😄
