    I think the rotating cast, personal stories and tech advancements were just some of the strongest told on the channel. Like I feel like three of the storylines were strong enough to be their own video.

    On the topic of branching outside of strictly speedrunning to gaming records in general, I would absolutely be a fan of that if you chose to do that! I will admit though, I'm having a hard time thinking of good games to tackle next in that regard. But with how fantastic this Tetris video was, I'm certain whatever you produce next will be great :D

  • @durin6358

    Tetris is definitely one of those games everyone and I mean everyone has had the chance to at least play once in their life. And you can immediately understand the connection between the game becoming more difficult as the levels increase too the increased skill needed to continue. Most of us probably gave up at some point. So to see these new players just blowing everyone mind and pushing the game farther then its limits will find most people in astonishment. You would think 'It's Tetris' how interesting could this be? And your expectations are completely blown out of the water. This has all the hallmarks of great story telling and your video captured it perfectly. And the funny thing is, it's not over yet.

  • @thegreathadoken6808
    @thegreathadoken68082 ай бұрын

    That was an entertaining little production, the Tetris thing. Feature length, very nice. You could make a watchable storyline out of a soiled diaper I'm sure. It's not just because it was about Tetris. Hey, make a video about the race to the top of the diaper industry and prove me right. EDIT: Jonas died? No I think telling the people who knew nothing about Tetris that the guy who started it all had died would have been something to consider. Put a couple of sentences at the end before the credits, black background, no audio, "In memory of Jonas Neubauer, who started it all".

    1:06:06 thank you for not making a big deal out of ages, as someone who's had firsthand experience with that. about a year ago when i was 17 i got a world record in a game that a streamer who was orders of magnitude more popular than me was running. when he played it at a live event he mentioned how a 17 year old was ahead of him and was a little mean about it; the crowd booed when he said my age lol. it really becomes all people fixate on, people in his chat would talk about me like i was a little kid

    TO be fair, the amount of prejudice going around against older people is pretty despicable, not that it makes what they and their viewers did acceptable. Ultimately, if you're good enough, you're old enough, and if you're good enough, you're young enough.

    Two things that I thought of that would be interesting, was the a button challenge for SM64, the first real time run was completed somewhat recently with no a presses, and the Ocarina of Time Triforce % TAS that was done at GDQ, since that just feels like it would have a ton of history and interesting stuff. Edit: Made it to the point where you mentioned why you wouldn't do an Ocarina of Time video, but Triforce % would probably still be possible since it was a single project, and you could talk to the people who made it more easily than researching about the world record progression. Its history would be shorter and less vast than the world record history, while still being very interesting and easier to research. It's also not the first time you've made a video about the history of something adjacent to speedrunning instead of world record progression. The GDQ video was Ocarina of Time TAS by dwangoAC, TASBot, Savestate, Sauraen in 53:05 - Summer Games Done Quick 2022.

    Covering the history of past champs in MK64 would be interesting to watch, especially since Michael Jongerius was a massive outlier in the earlier days of the game with holding the crown, I feel like it deserves more exposure at this point now. As for kaizo, SM74EE definitely deserves some coverage, there has been crazy developments over the past years, the hack itself is over a decade old by now, so there's no doubt there's some interesting amount of history about the 157 star category, I still remember when sub 4 hours was unthinkable, but here we are at sub 3:30 :) And one last idea from me, maybe it could work if you covered the history of shortcut/strat discoveries, how it came to be and how it was optimised, no doubt the community would be of great help on that topic :) (totally not related to MK64 :P)

    Quest to Beat the A Button Challenge. Obviously this was really thoroughly covered by Bismuth with Panakoak (spelled wrong) going into more depth. But they were all about the game play. You could do it going into the people behind the quest and their contributions. And then how the TAS challenge of each level evolved until very recently, someone completed a human 70 star world run without pressing A.

    Hello summoning salt! There are very interesting stories on denying sub categories like nnb (no next box) noro (no rotate) floor (no clears) etc. If you want to make a video on these topics it would be a banger. There are a couple on one or two of them but at this point they are all outdated and it is involving 1 point increases AI making to learn from it and completly new strategies after 30! years.

  • @triskai

    as the second or third best noro player ever, idk that there's enough of a storyline there to make a summoning salt type video about it lol. I mean maybe. but zoltan has just been so dominant and has pushed the category so far beyond where second place is at that even though the development of new strats from ai gameplay was a cool phase, I don't know that there's much compelling drama to be had in tracking the lines wr?

    Well, all the "denying sub categories" is like 4 or 5 categories maybe 6 iirc. So it is definitely long enough. And you can put every speedrun category as denying (300k speedrun and 100 lines speedrun). I really don't know but let salt decide if it worth a shot. His tetris video got 1.5 million in 3 days. I think another tetris related video would do similar and this is one of his best.

    Regarding Doom speedrunning record history, I agree it would be a great game for a future Summoning Salt video. Karl Jobst has done a few videos in the past that were really interesting and really whet my whistle for non-Jobst coverage of Doom and other FPS speedrunning in general. In my opinion, Quake speedruns are a lot more interesting than Doom due to fact that you can jump. The movement tech in Quake is off the charts cool to watch. There is a huge active scene and records going back 20+ years just being broken in the 2020s as well. For anyone interested, Quake Speedruns Explained does a great job of covering some of the newest records. Another great FPS record history to cover would be Half Life, where even in 2024 we've seen new records for the full game run by Muty and Kananga. Goldeneye is another example. Please don't take the Halo video as a sign that there isn't interest within your community for FPS content. There are countless FPS games with a long and storied history that I would love to see covered.
