Yet another great video, thanks a lot. @ 1:23 the brushes blew me away. Add a looper and there is the perfect drumset :-) May I suggest a video on your lovely HD&Co piano, like how did you get it, maintain it, etc. Another idea might be a lesson on how you think the pedals of the piano should or might be used.

As a bass player new to jazz, the start of this video was very helpful for me to wrap my head around 2-feel and understand what to expect from other musicians while playing in it - and to get some idea of what cues I can listen to when they try to move to 4-feel. Thank you!

Just a word of encouragement. I watch a lot of tutorial videos and I appreciate that everyone takes a different approach to what and how they teach. Some are more technical, some just play and don't talk. What I appreciate about your videos and that they seem to get to the heart of the music (the groove, the feel). Thanks for rounding out my tutelage. Keep at it.

Summertime by Gershwin is the #1 song ever written, and I have collected all the recorded versions I could ever find during my 6 decades as a music junkie. The best version in my collection is done solo by Duke Ellington on his "Piano In The Foreground" album. He takes Gershwin's uber-genius to another level. And NOW, after seeing your jam at the end, I've elevated you to #2 with a bullet!

Thank you, I am a drummer and occasionally play with bassists and pianist who don't get this much needed approach, especially if you are playing a lot of Great American Songbook material that needs this change in feel from two to four to get the right intensity in the right place with no increased effort or increased volume... Great explanation... great feel...

Just watching this video in 2020 with the COVID-19 pandemic in full effect. So many things have happened since March, so many deaths of family and friends, a season's worth of gigs cancelled, and thru it all trying to be stoic and optimistic. Your rendition of Summertime moved me SO much, and as you really got into your solo & began scatting, it hit me how much I miss the magic of playing live with my ensemble, how it makes me feel & the effect it has on the audience. I thought about how this year has been anything but an easy-livin' summer. I played the video again and let go of my stoicism until it was over. Thank you for your gift to me. Hope you and your family are safe and sound.

So your Summer Time , is what I'm teaching myself for the next 30 days. I came home from doing a 8 hour overnight shift the office, screen captured this whole video to my phone and sit in front of my up-right for a hour. In hyper-laps mode captured the whole thing on my phone and posted it on social media platforms. Last year on Xmas eve I had an emotional breakdown at my job, I deal with depression living alone after being homeless and losing a 30 year marriage the depression became alot so I'm using the piano and this Summer Time to help give me distraction and cope. I got as far as the first real change on the left hand. It looks like its about to get hard to follow your fingering but I need this just emotionally, so thank you. I wanted to learn SUMMERTIME due to Prince's live sound check version...it's on KZread if you haven't seen it check it out. I'm really excited about doing this for the next 30 days, not sure this was the best thing for a beginner but I'm gonna keep going...so thank you ,wish me luck.

    1 _ 3 _ 1 _ 3 _ versus 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 You're playing in 4/4 (with swing), but with a 2 feel you emphasize only 2 beats out of the measure. At least that's what it sounds like she's doing. I hadn't heard the term before myself, but I've heard another Jazz musician talking about emphasizing "1 and 3" versus "2 and 4". It sounds like Aimee is doing a little of both: 1 _ 3 _ _ 2 _ 4.

I found out about your channel just recently, and I've been blown away. Talented, smart, beautiful voice and an excellent choice of subjects for your video. I'm just an amateur guitar player, but I find your video enlightening on so many levels. Kudos!

Thanks Aimee. I don't really play piano, instead expressing on stringed instruments, even some harmonica. I've found online piano instruction to be WAY more guarded, if that makes sense. I'll use this, and Summertime is such a great melody. BTW, my 1925 upright piano will enjoy being played!
