Summer Vegetable Garden Tour | Portuguese Farm Life

Let us introduce you to our vegetable gardens. We use our hand drawn map of the property to help explain where we go. We show you what we get up to as we restore our land and carry on with our love of growing food, fruit and vegetables.
We harvest tomatoes, aubergines, courgettes, melons and more.
How big is our abandoned farm?
We bought abandoned land in Portugal. And a stone ruin to restore.
From overgrown farm to a productive garden in under a year.
In this episode we harvest and taste some of our fabulous vegetables.
We hope this gives you an idea of what is possible to grow in zone 10b with hot dry summers, here in the interior of central Portugal. We use permaculture principles on our farm (homestead).
If you’d like to see what we do to preserve our harvest, take a look at this video

When courgettes get missed and grow like that, they are still edible. Cut in half longways, take out the seeds and stuff with your favourite filling. roasted off like that, they cook down nicely and are still tasty, not necessarily coarse at all, although you might expect them to be.

Don’t throw away your overgrown zucchini. I make delicious breakfast bread loaves using grated zucchini, throwing away or composting the peel and seedy pith. It also makes delicious zucchini relish which we use when eating hot dogs or when I cook dried beans and make a pan of cornbread. I am in Louisiana and grew up in a family of 10. We had a big garden and grew lots of vegetables and fruits which we canned.

Maybe there are deer? Maybe there are wild boar? There are lots of animals out there, some say that lynx have been seen. However, we built the enclosure to stop the goats that graze on our lower terraces from eating what’s inside. 😊

Laughing so much at the melon comment , Garden looking great I have suggested to all I subscribe to The Jadam fertilisers for incredible results and so easy and cheap and the North korean farming fertilisers that need a lot more work. Your spuds didnt have the nutrients to grow and so the fertilisers recommended are to regenerate the soil.It is the soil you feed, not the plant
