Regular/daily exercise and doing what I can do when I can do it has been life-changing for me. It’s good for my mind. It’s good for my body. Find the thing that you will do. Whatever that looks like for you. Walking the dog. Going for a run. Going climbing. Going weight training. Weight training at home for 30 mins in the morning. The best exercise is the one that you will do regularly.

While staying in the sun is bad for the skin, it's good for my mental health. I get happy. What is the ideal duration to stay in the sun so that I get my dose of vitamin D and at the same time trying to minimise the effects of sun damage.

Depends on your skin tone. Here is an excerpt: Adults In the spring and summer, adults with 22% of their skin uncovered can produce 1,000 IU of vitamin D in 10-15 minutes of sun exposure. However, the time it takes to produce vitamin D can range from 9-46 minutes, depending on the risk of erythema. People with lighter skin may only need 15 minutes of sun exposure, while people with darker skin may need a couple of hours.

  • @JauntyCrepe

People can also increase their vitamin D intake by eating foods high in vitamin D, such as fish, fortified breakfast foods, or taking supplements. Some people may notice improvements in their vitamin D levels within a few weeks of starting supplementation, but it can take longer for others.

Honestly, my doctor prescribed a supplement for me because that’s probably the actually safest way to get it. So maybe look into that and adding dietary sources so you can still go out into the sun but also use sun screen

FYI all of the people I know who tanned as a kid and are older than 50, ALL have or had skin cancer- and the one who tanned the most and never wore sunscreen died of skin cancer that could have been treated, but she blew it off for YEARS and it spread to all of her organs. I have spend all my life avoiding to tan because I have rosacea, very sensitive skin, and I’m from Chile, where skin cancer is one of the most common cancer because we have a hole in the atmosphere 🤷🏻‍♀️, so, I belong to the “sunscreen police“ and I go around saying to everyone to use SPF every 2 hours in a very annoying way 😂 But this raised a small question for you: Can it be bad to apply “too much” sunscreen? for example, to apply a huge amount every hour or so? By the way: guys, you are both beautiful man, smart, kind and generous. I’m so sorry that people in 2024 say to Dr. Shah to get a tan or that it used to look better tan… KZread and RRSS in general are a scary place to get exposed, and you share amazing content and now deliver amazing products with Remedy, I only can be thankful to you two ❤

i mean i think at that point it would just be wasteful because i don’t think you’d be getting any extra protection, just using extra product and getting the same level of protection (at least roughly). as long as you’re diligent about using your spf and reapplying every two hours, you should be safe. don’t stress yourself out too much about anything more than that (as far as spf goes) and also wearing UV protective clothing will help a lot too so i would just recommend adding that into your daily life rather than extra unnecessary spf. hope this helps :) also, just as a disclaimer, i’m not a medical professional (although i’m soon to be in school to become one!😸) so take this with a pinch of salt! i’m just basing all of this on the knowledge i’ve accumulated over the years from professionals in regards to UV protection

Unfortunately he also informed me to not use self tanners because of interference with skin exams, which I have every three months. You are the first Drs. I’ve heard even mention this medication. Every single morning my SPF goes on my face, whether I go outside or not, whether it's raining or not. I stay out of the sun b/c I literally burn in 10 mins. We love cruising but never go out in the sun. We may walk to a location for a few minutes but I've never gotten so much as any color while on our cruises. This combo-skinned woman is ALWAYS on the hunt for an actual matte SPF and, so far, have only found one. I can't tell you how much $$ I've wasted on new sunscreens and I always end up giving them to my sister who has dry skin. I will try the Neutrogena Hydro Boost you mentioned. Thanks for a timely video for all of us. And Dr Shah, your baseline skin tone is fabulous. Don't listen to those who tell you to deviate!!

Even thoough I have "mature" skin it still tends to be oily in the t zone and in the summer I sweat like a banshee (do banshees sweat?)....The BHA toner and the gel moisturizer are amazing and I finally feel like I have found a moisturizer that balances my skin without creating an oil slick and the BHA toner is visibly reducing pore size. She’s been riddled with skin cancers for years, but now her doctors tell her that melanoma is inevitable. She has months of chemotherapy and surgeries ahead of her, and she’s understandably terrified. Seeing her makes me thankful that I didn’t try too hard to be tan when I was younger. My burn-not-tan pale-girl “curse” in the 80’s and 90’s turns out to have been a blessing now that I’m in my 50s. IT’S NOT WORTH IT!

When I was 14, my mom had me on HerbaLife to lose weight. I forgot to put on sunscreen at a friend's house. I ended up with the worst sunburn of my life. I used to get a nice golden tan every summer. Since that day, I can't tan without burning. So I don't bother. I slather on the sunscreen and let myself stay pale.

It would be good to touch upon how sometimes the products for recommend are formulated differently in different countries e.g. USA vs UK.

I've been regularly focused on my sunscree habits the last few years. This summer is shaping up to be a hard one, though. My cat has/had a white tipped ear and got squamous cell cancer. W caught it early and he didn't lose as much ear as we originally thought, which means I now have to apply sunscreen to his ear every morning before he can curl up in sun patches...trying to figure out how often it needs reapplied and then realizing I need to get it on the inside....it’s been a lot. But also a great reminder about the importance of sunscreen And for the uneducated internet trolls that keep saying sunscreen causes cancer....my cat didn't use sunscreen a day in his life before skin cancer!! Gah! Rant over.
