I love the one that looks like it was inspired by a Van Gogh meadow. In kindred spirit, Eliza Most Beautiful Day is Today! 28th of September 2023; 5:03pm bed office PS: New sheets, quilt cover today, had a lovely (short) walk at Oatley Park, Sydney, after a week of bedrest after surgery! Found your channel, through Kriksis, via Natasha for quite a while... Good luck at your show, I think it is terrific that you are all friends, and collaborating together!

While you did some swatching at the end, the page of the other finished sketchbook that you'd graciously showed us to view had seized my attention so well. Well enough to help me daydream and truly relax as it aided me. Sincerely, Thank You! As this was an amazing gift that you'd bestowed upon us and including me. Am looking forward to the next KZread video.

Hi Mel, I love your sketchbook tours! The sketches and colours look beautiful. Seeing you paint the beautiful places we have walked too makes me very happy:). The gouache colours of Kriksis are great. I would like them too. Cornwall is just the most beautiful place to fill a sketchbook. The first walk we did in February was from Porthallow. Wonderful quiet place. I'm packing my painting supplies for our holiday today. We have booked a cottage, this time in Coverack. Your exhibition is not so far away from there I think. I'm looking forward to lots of walks and filling my sketchbook with some new drawings from Cornwall. I'll have to check again when your exhibition starts and where exactly. Thank you so much for your wonderful work. I always watch to the end too:)). Take care. Bye, bye, Gabi

Wonderful to hear Gabi. Yes Coverack is just along from St Keverne where the exhibition is. There is a route we do from Coverack to Roskilly and back along the coastal path and inland, which could include a visit to the exhibition. The gallery is at Roskilly Farm in the Old milking parlour called Coast Colour Canvas. It starts Saturday 7th October and finishes Friday 13th October. Open 11-4pm. I will be there Saturday and in the week. You can always leave a message below to let me know when you think you'll be coming.

Hi Mel! Thanks for your message. We have saved the route from Coverack to Roskilly to our other walks we want to do. I will definitely come, just can't say which day yet. Maybe you'll be in the gallery then. That would be nice:-)). Have a lovely day. Gabi@@MelanieChadwick

I loved this. Beautiful ❤ I kept staring at that picture with the pond. a little hint, I think when you were swatching you misslabeled some gorgous Luminance as Neocolours? (at the start, not sure if that bothers you). Thank you for the video and the prompts

Remarkable! Incredibly inspiring as ever, Mel! ❤ My goals for Autumn are simply to sketch MORE and show up in my sketchbook at least once a week, whether inside or out (preferably outside, but with work, it doesn't always happen). Did I miss the “special word” that proves I watched until the end?? I'm going to watch it again, just in case 😂.

i wish i could use these linear prompts (meaning they are presented to me like a planned way of exploring art), but it feels terrible every time i try it. I simply get bored after the first few prompts and feel itchy and constricted even if i choose them randomly. My prompts come from my curios daily explorations of what truly delights me in that moment and then i follow it. If for example, i chose a linear prompt like pebbles but my sheer interest is found in butterflies on that day, then i just cant bring myself exploring pebbles artistically, it just feels crushed and my spirit freedom is taken away from me. Anyone else feeling the same?

I understand what you mean, which why it is important to follow your impetus to draw what you feel drawn too and I would say ditch the prompts if it restricts you actually creating. These prompts are really to use as a base and an idea to get you going, to get outside and see the landscape around you. However, sometimes it is good to draw something you wouldn't usually and prompt lists can help push you to explore things you maybe wouldn't usually draw. Which then leads to asking questions of why am I not connecting? How can I approach this differently? How can find joy in sketching this? As an illustrator I often am given briefs that I wouldn't necessarily want to do but through process and discipline have found they've been the most satisfying to complete as I've persevered through it. Just because it feels uncomfortable doesn't mean that its a terrible thing to do. Try pushing through that itchy, constricted phase and you may find a way to freedom through it.

@@MelanieChadwick i totally understand and receive your point of view. I think the main difference here is that i cannot do things i dont love, no matter how much i analyze my disconnection to it, because is just a matter of heart and sensory connection. I am glad this works for you though. For me, the pushing over my comfort zone lead me to burnout and autoimmune disease, which is why now i pay very close attention to where i feel the pull and nourishment instead of forcing myself to sit with something that doesnt feel exciting. I also learned that when i follow the delight with curiosity it leads me to more magic and opportunities. Maybe is just the way we are built and maybe we function better in certain ways that for others may or may not feel right.

  • @MelanieChadwick

Certainly agree and we are all at different stages of life and experience. I discovered sketching after burnout and so enjoyed the freedom of drawing what I saw compared to client work and deadlines. I think there is a balance to be found and work out. Space is needed for happy accidents and play and if prompts are hindering then another way should be allowed and found! 😊 wishing you well
