Summer Night Fishing: Everything You Need To Know To Catch Bass At Night!

Спорт

Night fishing is worth it and you should give it! The dog days of Summer can be brutal but Summer nights are magical and packed with aggressive fish! Just like fishing in the day, there are some tricks to constantly catching big bass. In today's video we cover everything from moon phase to overlooked lures that get big bites in the dark!
Traditional angling knowledge would have you out on the lake at night with a Colorado bladed spinnerbait and a 10" black power worm. While this works extremely well on a lot of fisheries, its just the tip of the iceberg on what an angler can do at night. Creature baits, reaction baits, topwater, swimbaits, even finesse baits, are all excellent choices at night. There is a time and place for everything and that's what we want you to gain from today's video.
You can't forget the basics because they continue to work, but if you want to branch out and be successful there are some great options that you've been overlooking. Below is a breakdown of the baits and equipment discussed in the video. The links go direct to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos, descriptions, and available colors for each item. We've also included some rod recommendations as well for some of our favorite night fishing combos when sensitivity is key.

I am ALL about night fishing from say middle of April to first right around the 4the of July. Then when the shad stop spawning and go back to roaming, and the bass suspend under em over 100 foot of water, I go back to day time fishing. Friggin hard to catch suspended bass as it is, much less at night. But more and more I'm getting out of the whole night fishing deal. I use to love it but anymore its hardly no difference in the bite between night and day, and that's not in a good way. If I'm gonna struggle to catch a few bass i would much rather do it when I can fish without a head light. Except for when the shad are spawning. That bite is a huge deal on my lake. And fishing with wake baits and other top waters is just plain ol fun.

Great video as always, thanks. I went night fishing last week and slayed them throwing a spinner bait and a whopper plopper. I caught my biggest though, about 6.5 lbs on a drop shot with a big roboworm. I would follow up a plopper cast with a finesse bait and scored a big one. Just a pointer I picked up that worked for me. Have a good one and good luck on the big move

You guys put a video out a few years ago and covered the new moon topic and dude!........ Took your advice and landed my PB largie around midnight with a Plopper. I fished a lake near home that I know like the back of my hand. Went out with one rod, a red headlamp, and patience. Felt more like a hunt than anything. I waited for some activity in the shallows where I knew they'd be chasing big gizzard shad. Saw a huge blowup, threw past it, brought it in quickly with a couple of pauses. Got hammered 10ft from the bank (bank fishing). Only thing that sucked about that catch was that I forgot to take a tape measure and a scale. I know it was pushing 7lbs which is almost unheard of where I live. I did manage to get some pics ,but not the best being alone without a Go-Pro at night. That was one heck of an experience I'll never forget. Thanks again fellas for the awesome tips!!

I suppose keeping it (simple )means different things to different people. For real though I seem to do my best fishing when i keep it simple. I love to pack to much tackle and am constantly trying to take less and less and less. But here is my best version of keeping it simple and i always heave a good time when i take nothing but my rod and reel and some hooks and sinkers, I suggest everyone who loves the sport of fishing to go catch your own bait a few times each year whatever and however but it gives you a feeling you just cant get doing it any other way, for instance i like to sometimes catch my own crawfish and then sometimes i dig up some worms go catch some bluegill then use the bluegill for bait however you do it, just make sure you have a plan and be safe. great video. im just keeping my comments simple you see.

Gentlemen, this is my favorite thing on KZread. Me and my 6- and 4-year-old can't stop watching. We only found this about a month ago so we're still going through old episodes. I do have one question: Have you all done an episode about fishing on a budget or when you don't have access to a boat and you're just fish off of a dock? My gear is an accumulation of 4 years worth of stuff. I finally "splurged" and got a new 6.5' UglyStick and Mitchell 300 to pair with my old rod and Zebco 33. I don't have a boat because I refuse to mess up my father in law's boat. West side of the dock is bass and the east side is crappie, bluegill, and cats. I have all of the lures in this episodes, albeit cheaper versions, I just want to catch more with my boys. Any advice?

if im fishing a quarry, no trees in or near the water, only defined areas are a slight point and on the opposite side a air-rator. the whole place is about the size of 5 football fields and its about 300ft deep, with a road corkscrewing down into the whole thing. the whole place is covered in rocks the size of beach balls to the size of a soft ball, ive had my luck at the airator and point, mainly throw ikas and spinnerbaits because its so easy to snag with the boulders, the topwater bite is non exsistant all year at night, the know forage is shad, goby a small population of gills, possibly crappie and craws. its been a tough bite the last year or so. it holds small mouth as well as largies, any reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.

I have noticed most and alot of times if trying to use topwaters on bright full moon nights, the bass slap at the bait alot not fully committed like it spooks them, anyone else have this problem ? The big private pond im fishing gets zero fisherman except for me. On dark moons or better yet new moon with clouds the darkest of darks they kill topwater with a passion but full moon bright nights they tail slap and i hardly hook one like it scares them, so fishing pressure not a problem. Its weird cause daytime they hit good but why the bright full moon does that to them ?

I think that wouldn't work. Three things trigger bass at night. On full moons is scale flash, so spinnera. On dark nights they look for contrast and shapes, like junebug worms..and then top water noise for all nights.

Danny Waide it depends on water clarity and brightness of the moon depending on what phase you are fishing, with Tim’s theory it’d be morning dawn color of you have clear water and good moonlight, but I could imagine the silhouette just being black and black doing well or even the brown being that they will only see the bottom side of the bait. Fish what you are confident in.

My nephew caught one on a hot dog at night. I guess not knowing any better can sometimes teach us all something. But the only reason for that bass to eat that hot dog was the scent of the hotdog. So if you have some scent attractant in your bag be sure to use it

yah just use the same stuff u use during the day at night, thats it :) . I been catching them this way for years, that assumption of changing your tackle at night to help the bass find the lures isn't correct. the bass find em, lateral lines are in play. moon phases definitely help but any change in weather or the lake can help the bite. I've been throwing ned rigs at night and they get bit. the bass find em. those trd's have very little water displacement other than the ned head. It's more about lure placement in those high % areas.

If one is only going for a portion of the night does it matter if it is the first few hours of dark, the middle or the last couple hours? All the same or one portion better than another?

I was always under the impression that when you and Matt said to fish the 3 days before and after the new and full moon, you meant a 7 day period (including the actual ful/new moon day). You said 6 days. Did you mean to say 6 days, instead of 7, or did you mean don't fish the actual day of the full/new moon?

Your worms DO NOT have to be big or curly tailed at night! I load the boat year round with black, junebug, redbug, and watermelon Zoom Magnum Finesse worms; BANG Pure Craw on 'em, Woody's Worm Rattle in 'em, rigged on a Charlie Brewer Spider Slider or Buckeye Spot Remover head. Also, your crankbaits don't have to be large, bright, or noisy! A small, slim, silent black/silver Rapala Shad Rap around marina docks can be phenomenal. For some reason (green glitter, probably) a 4" junebug Zoom lizard works well at night.
