Night Fishing Tricks For Summer Bass!

Спорт

BIG BASS BITE AT NIGHT! If you aren't night fishing in Summer, you're missing a huge opportunity to catch monster fish! When Summer heat gets unbearable, turn to the dark for an opportunity at big bites without the sweltering heat. Here are some tips that break the night fishing mold, to help you catch more fish.
We've all heard the same things about night fishing. Traditional knowledge like "Fish big worms", "don't forget the rattle", "you have to use a Colorado blade" are constantly passed around like fact. The truth is, night fishing is very similar to fishing in the day. Whites, browns, chartreuses, are all viable color options when night fishing, you just need to figure out what your fish prefer. As a rule of thumb we've found that darker colors work on darker nights (new moon) and brown, white, and chartreuse work better on right nights (full moon).
Below you'll find links to some of our favorite night fishing baits and gear. We've included our favorite colors for each, as well as the hooks and weights we use, where applicable. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

I can relate to getting owned by a huge bass at night.. I've been broke off by quite a few at night but there's one that hit my 3/4o rattle trap and I'd be damned if he didn't swim straight for the only tree stump for 20 yards and proceed to wrap around it and I was rearing back trying to stop him but the drag was coming out and i got a good look with my headlamp right before he broke me off that image sticks in my head every time I go past that stump..

thanks for doing another nite time vid, Tim. I fish at nite and echo your comments on not using too much light at nite. When i move from spot to spot, i see a bright white headlamp. However once i get near, I immediately change to a green headlamp. it’s perfect. I know green doesn’t spook fish and it gives me plenty light in the boat as well. I have option for red too, but green much better imo. Agree , hard to beat ole Monster or cMac worm. 👍

If you're Texas rigging, use a peg, brass weight and a glass beed for sound. The glass beed can make a big difference at night. It's not so good for day though for me. Also trie supper slow retrieves, hop it and drag it. A lot of times the fish are biting but you can barely feel anything, you just feel a tad of resistance. Don't be afraid to set the hook on any kind of different feeling retrieves. Good luck buddy.

Gotta get my education in on it so I have a bit more confidence on the water... I've missed out on night fishing because until now I never had the opportunity, life got in my way... You mentioned the bug spray, i would add to make sure to avoid using repellent that contains deet. Not for the obvious health concerns surrounding it, but primarily because largemouth HATE it. If you have bug repellent on your hands that contains deet and then handle your lures and touch your line there is a chance they'll avoid it.

Been night fishing for about 3 weeks now on a clear lake, hoping to go into my second tournament feeling confident about reaching a limit, but I am getting my tail kicked. Two fish on any trip, and nothing I have watched videos seem to be clicking. Dragging big black worms around brush piles on ledges, dark topwater lures (at the bank and parallel) wacky rigged in the light and letting it slowly sink then repeat, dragging a craw down rocks, dark chatterbaits in the shallow, the only lure with multiple catches is with a double willow bladed in aurora. I am starting to think I am overthinking this and just need to know where my lay downs and brush piles are in the creeks (like said), and this fish my confidence baits for those situations.

Tim did Zoom bait co sell and trade hands with someone and doing away with some colors? The color "old purple", especially in the ol monster worm is probably the best bass catching bait to use except in the cold months. You can't find that color very much because it's a special color. Have you ever used any? It's deadly at night and day.

Make sure your fishing around deeper water even if your not fishing deep.In my experience at night on draw downed lakes, look for points that have a deeper side or a small pocket or flat close to some drop off.Jointed wake bait, bigger profile swimbait(6 inch black is what I like),and a chatterbait are my go to.I also throw a skirtless swim jig with a flapping craw trailer with a rattle and it's always darker colors that work for me(my lake is only 1-2 ft vis at most).

A lot of good tips here Tim.. For the life of me I can't figure why people give up on the old school baits such as the jitterbug . When I was younger I had many a good night fishing. You did skip over the main reason I no longer night fish. Mosquitoes!! I don't care how much bug deterrent you use or where you put it They will get you. It seems after you're out for an hour or so they lighten up , that is until you have to load your boat. Then it's Katie bar the door every man for themselves . After you fished as many years as I have you'll understand why I don't night fish anymore.. Fair weather fisherman know.Give me the early morning.

Also, can't you use some lights to attract small fish so that the bass come in and then they'll see your lure or bait and take it? I've seen people do that with inshore saltwater fishing. Is that the reason why, that it's different, or would it work for bass fishing as well?

  • @CodyMadeThis

    @CodyMadeThis

    2 жыл бұрын

I've heard of people using the underwater green lights to attract bait fish and crappie, which in theory would also attract largemouth feeding on those bait fish. I would imagine they would lurk just outside of the scope of the light and attack the bait fish intermittently. I know that's what largemouth do around marinas and boat docks with big lights on at night.

What braided line shows up under a black light ?

pick up some fluorescent braid. when i blacklight fish, i prefer to use a fluorescent fluorocarbon or monofilament leader, as opposed to having my mainline fluorescent. I dont know if fish can see UV light bouncing off the line well, but leaders make me feel more stealthy because the only time the line is illuminated is during the cast, as the line is traveling out my guides and through the air. that way i can see where my lure lands, but its usually far enough away that the black light isnt illuminating the leader when the line settles. hope that tip helps.

So stained water and no moon use darker colors ? Clear water and full moon use shad and brighter colors? I've never understood this at night or day. Bait fish, pan fish, crawfish etc are the same color day or night , moon or not ,stained or clear water and the bass are still feeding on them relentlessly. In my opinion it has more to do with covering water and getting your bait in front of more fish for more opportunities. Once you've figured out what color and style bait they want that trip , then put the trolling motor down and cover water

@@danaparks8812 not sure the science behind it,but it works is all I can tell you.Caught a 37 lb limit this summer and all of the fish came on black baits whether they were chatterbait, top water, jig,or swimbait.Went to some color variations on those baits and could not get bit consistently.I think if your water clarity is less then two to three ft it makes a difference.Again ,if your a fish looking up to attack, that dark silhouette stands out against the sky and on bottom baits you can do your own test.drop a light colored worm or craw a couple feet down, and compare the visibility to a black one.

@@dontnonowuno9953 I guess we just don't understand how anything black can silhouette in a black sky. Isn't that like putting something black on top of something black? To me it sounds like it would blend right in lake camouflage. I too have had some work using darker colored artificial boots, however I've had some decent luck using some light colored one as well. That's what I'm saying.

Three tubes of cortisone cream and I'm still trying to figure out if it was worth it🤣 in all seriousness great video as always next I'm going extra prepared: 3 mosquito coils, off, those bracelets, and whatever else they sell that repels mosquitoes LOL
